“Solid Value - Traditional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Very good food. nice sized portions, lots of outdoor seating, right across from the park, near good shopping, brusque but efficiently professional waiters. Don't waste their time with a bunch of questions.

“Big portions & friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We had dinner one day at the Modesto restaurant in the Santa Cruz bairro.
Mostly traditional spanish food, large portions. It is in the touristy area, prices are a little inflated considering it serves typical homey food. Main dishes are around $20-30 euros, which is the average in the area. Very good ox tail.

“great quality tapas at a good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Been here several times. Service is always impeccable, food is very tasty and portion sizes very good. The prices are great despite this place having such a prime position in the tourist area.
Great place to eat on a sunny day.

“Superb Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

The Modesto was first recommended to me by a taxi driver who said it was the best restaurant in Seville and that he took his family there every Sunday. I have used it ever since and have no reason to disagree with his judgement.

Whether you want a few tapas with a drink at the bar or a full-blown meal at a table, either inside or outside, the Modesto will not disappoint. There is an extensive a la carte menu and an impressive range of tapas and raciones with the emphasis on seafood; every type of shellfish from the tiny coquinas fried in oil with burnt garlic, through gambas, cigalitas, cigalas, langostinos, langostas and crabs. The locally-caught boquerones are superb and for a quick but satisfying snack with a hurried drink the croquetas de la casa take some beating. A glass or two of bone-dry fino followed by a selection of three or four tapas, with a little break in between each, washed down with a bottle of Marques de Vilalua, a cooling and nutty local white wine, is a meal which will long be remembered.

Behind the bustling bar hang rows of the wonderful Serrano hams, cured in mountain snow and matured for several years. To appreciate its unique flavour it must be carved in wafer thin slices off the joint and eaten immediately. It is also a joy to watch the waiters behind the bar who are immaculately dressed and hardly pause to draw breath. The staff are all extremely professional and, after the languid and disinterested service one receives in so many parts of Europe nowadays, it is a pleasure and a privilege to be served by waiters who are proud of their profession and see nothing demeaning in giving their customers the highest possible standard of service. Highly recommended.
