“Decent hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2008

I am a bit perplexed by the RAVE reviews here on Hotel Alcantara. I think it's fine, but it definitely is a 2* no frills hotel. One review even called it a "boutique" hotel - hardly so.

I stayed in a single room for 2 nights. The room is the smallest single room in Spain I stayed at during my 12-day trip (on which I stayed at 4 different hotels). Bed is a twin bed and bathroom has shower stall only. The room is clean but my bathroom had a faint sewage smell. I was too lazy to ask to be moved, so I just left the bathroom window open and the bathroom door closed during my stay.

There is a TV but I couldn't find any English channel. There was no remote control in my room but I kept forgetting to ask the front desk about it.

There is no in-room safe, but the reception area has several safes where one can put their valuables in and you keep the key with you.

My room faces the inner courtyard and is very quiet at night. No one ate breakfast in the courtyard during my stay (it was Feb) but potentially it can be noisy in the morning when it's warm outside.

I liked the location and it's fun to wander around Barrio Santa Cruz. The walk from the Prado/Sebestian bus station is about 12 minutes w/luggage, 10 minutes w/o. There is no easy way to get to the Santa Justa train station by public transport, so I took a taxi. It was a short ride and cost €5.

Breakfast buffet is simple but a good price at €5. It has cold cuts, cereal, breads, juices, coffee etc. What it doesn't have is hot food.

The front desk staff is really awesome. All are cheerful and helpful and very nice. I met the staff from all 3 shifts and everyone I encountered was just great!

The bottom line: I think I will recommend it with some reservations. For the price they're charging, you may be able to find somewhere else a bit more luxurious for just a few extra more euros.

This hotel was everything said on Trip Advisor and more. The location is ideal - right in the heart of the old Jewish Quarter, this hotel is in the midst of the major walking district of town. Everything you'd want is close (except Plaza Nueva, but that is far from everything). A short walk to the Cathedral, the Alcazar, tons of Tapas bars, cafes and places for breakfast, a fanastic park, a great place to see Flamenco, you name it. The staff were incredibly nice from beginning to end, the rooms was quiet, and the entire hotel, except for the courtyard was non-smoking. And, even though they don't advertise it, they offer free wireless internet access, or the ability to rent a computer for very little money if you need to check your internet while there.

The room was small but sufficient. The bed was two single beds pushed together - if you like to sleep in the same bed, make sure to ask for a cama matrimonial (normal larger bed) or a cama italiana (they put sheets and a mattress pad over both beds together to make it feel more like one bed). They did offer the strangest toilettries at the hotel - 2 different kinds of sponges, 2 shower caps and a large bottle of all purpose goo - so don't forget to pack your own. We did not have breakfast at the hotel as we enjoyed walking around in the morning, but it certainly was within city wide pricing at 5 euros per person.

We really loved Seville and this hotel was everything it promised, leaving us free to enjoy the sites. I would return without question.

Back in December we had a short break to Andalucia visiting Seville, Cordoba and Granada. We stayed at the Alcantara for 2 nights. The location is excellent, in the old town with its very narrow streets, and not too far from the bus station. The Cathedral and Palace are within easy walking distance. Our twin room was very quiet, and although on the small side, was clean and comfortable.
The help yourself breakfast was good, with ad lib coffee, toast, cheese etc.
Make sure you have a decent map showing its' location though - the Old Town is like a maze, it was late evening when we arrived in Seville and for a while we were lost.

My wife and I and our three year old daughter stayed here for two nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also spoke english just fine.
This hotel is priced very fair for such an awesome location. It is very close to the Cathedral and is inside the Barrio Santa Cruz which is the safest (and some would say nicest) neighborhood in Seville.
The breakfast that was served was also very affordable and quite good. Our room was also very clean and quite at night. Though in the spring it could possibly be noisier with the increased number of tourists. But that would be true of any hotel in Seville.
On our last day we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel while we walked around the city, which was an extra plus.

Our family of 4 (2 seniors, son and daughter-in-law) stayed for just one night at the Alcantara. The location is perfect. Minutes away from the Cathedral and right in the historic Jewish area. Plenty of restaurants, flamenco show in the small plaza attached to the hotel (but not affiliated with the hotel in any way), friendly pleasant staff. We had no problem with noise. Would definitely go back to this hotel and also recommend it to friends. Only one thing to be aware of. The hotel does not have its own parking but the underground parking garage is very close and convenient. However, it charges 14 euros per day and does not have an hourly rate so if you go over your 24 hours at all, you are charged for another full day. 26 hours cost us 28 euros.

The Hotel Alcantara is a lovely boutique hotel at a value price, located in the heart of the old pedestrian section of Seville. It is an easy walk from the Cathedral and Royal Palace, and is in the middle of the restaurants, shops, and gardens that make Seville such a delight.*
Be sure to print directions to the nearby *Parking Garage*, as recommended by the hotel web site, before trying to find the hotel. The Tomtom had us circling the city and couldn't identify the right lot, so we spent an hour trying to find it. The hotel is a couple of short blocks from the recommended parking, along narrow pedestrian streets similar to Venice. The hotel is located alongside the entrance to a museum.*
The checkin was friendly, and we were able to get directions and dinner recommendations, along with a map, in short order. The lobby is a small, light sitting area where breakfast is served in the morning. Breakfast is a buffet with breads, cereals, yogurt, and fruit. There is a selection of guidebooks available as well, along with free wireless internet available in the lobby: ask for the Network Key when you check in. An elevator connects to the rooms.*
Rooms are large and sunny; the two single beds would need to be pushed together to make a double, but otherwise the room is very nice. The shower had good hot water and pressure, and the area was quiet and comfortable at night.*
The hotel location and overall ambience in Seville is it's best feature: we highly recommend the hotel as an outstanding value in near-perfect location for touring the city.

Very comfortable hotel, light bright clean rooms, friendly helpful staff and what a location! Right in the middle of the old city of Seville. Minutes walk to the cathedral, the Real Alcazares, the bullring. Also reasonbly priced. Good safe parking close to the hotel. I fell in love with Seville and hope to return.
