On booking this hotel on hostelworld's website, I realised later when looking at San Lorenzo's own website that a single room was ridiculously small- we're talking the room is nearly the size as the bed. As I was in Sevilla to study for my dissertation I needed more space so emailed them to cancel. I received a lovely email back saying, "We would like you to not cancel and are happy to give you a double room for the same price so you have the space you need". I later confirmed this with them twice, so as this would not be a problem when I arrived. I was greeted at the hotel by an older couple, who didnt seem to know about it after all my emails! But they made some phonecalls and gave me their 'best room'- a triple, the only room on the upper floor that wasn't a single. I settled in and was leaving to explore Sevilla when the problems began, they said I'd lied to them and told them I was coming with someone. I tried to show them the emails I'd exchanged with the owner in Spanish but they didnt care, this went on for about half an hour before I left. When I returned at night, it continued! They went on and on at me repeating that I said I was a couple and that they would have to move me to a another room if anyone booked their 'special room'. So I spent the whole time trying not to unpack and feeling uncomfortable. One morning quite late (I'd slept in due to the older couple constantly shouting at each other late into the night), low and behold I got a furious knocking on the door, a younger couple were there who I hadn't met before and said I was being moved. What infuriates me the most, more than them breaking their word is that if I hadn't slept in that day I would have been out, so they would have moved and touched my belongings while I wasn't there! I was moved to a room right next to the reception which was hell on earth, the noise was so bad. Constant domestic arguments that frankly didn't make me feel either comfortable or secure while lying in bed right next to them. Needless to say, I hardly got any study done while in the room, it really put the purpose of my trip at risk. They were basically badly organised, noisy and they don't have much to work with- all the rooms surround this indoor courtyard type reception area, you can hear everything. It was smelly- like toilets or drains, full of insects and the rooms were covered in hairs. I felt like this was their home and not really a hotel. They were friendly and I was friendly with them, but when problems occurred they wouldn't get off MY back, complaining at me and making all of it my problem. Really regret not just cancelling!
