The location couldn't be better: it's right off Plaza de los Reyes, across from the iconic Giralda tower (visible from the balcony of our "superior" room on the 3d floor), and a stone's throw from the old town and the main shopping district. It rises at the end of a narrow street, just off the hubbub of Mateos Gago street and the Plaza, so rooms are quiet, but for the times when the enthusiastic padres let go with the giralda's bells. The Dońa Maria is an historic building with all the pluses and minuses of older structures but if one can survive without chromed minimalist furniture or glass curtain walls, then this IS the place. Attentive ---not fawning-- staff. Good bathroom fixtures (again, not the latest but working fine), comfortable beds and great atmosphere, which can be captured right to the side of the reception desk in the ample lobby decorated with antiques and traditional furniture. Reasonably fast wi-fi on all floors BUT a scarcity of outlets to plug in laptops/phones in the bedroom. Excellent buffet breakfast. Also: delightful rooftop (small) pool and bar, frequented by guests and plenty of locals, with unobstructed views of the Giralda. We will return.
Go for the "superior" rooms in the front. Other rooms may open to interior courts.
