“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

The hotel is big large... big lobby and high ceilings ...
The rooms are clean... comfortable and big...
The food was fine not something special but fine...
The staff wasn't that helpful when it comes to personal issues, i had problem with using the Telephones to call abroad and i lost so many money trying to call and it didn't work... nobody was helping and No one really cared...
But over all it's a nice hotel and clean !

We were a party of 5 including 2 elderly parents. I booked this hotel as it was out of the city centre and had a pool. I thought after a long days sightseeing we would welcome a cool dip! Yes it is tired and needing a little TLC in places but then again they are not charging prices which indicate otherwise. I feel that this is a hotel that knows who it is and does not pretend otherwise. We had a triple and a specially converted disabled double room. Both were very spacious, clean, good bathrooms and even provided toiletries! We didn't eat at the hotel apart from snacks at the pool bar which were overpriced and tasteless. There are many excellent bars and cafes in the area offering food at excellent prices so eating at the hotel was not a concern. We took a bus from a stop close to the hotel and taxis also, so easy to get into the city. I would stay here again!

My wife and I stayed at the Silken Al-Andalus Hotel and the room was very comfortable. We were a little disappointed in the food options but everything else was fine. However, what really impressed us was the staff. The front office and concierge staff were superb. We parked our car on the road outside the hotel and thieves broke one of the windows in the middle of the night. Nothing of value was stolen but around 10 cars were targetted that night - they were looking for GPS equipment. Luckily police quickly arrested the culprits. Next morning the police were extremely polite and helpful with the legal formalities. And the hotel staff arranged for our car window to be speedily repaired. So the result of a rather upsetting experience was a very postive impression of the hotel staff, the police, and the repair services in Seville. A wonderful city well worth exploring.

Room Tip: Use the hotel car park to park your car overnight. Do not leave it outside on the road.

This was obviously a tourist Mecca in some decade last century. It however is sadly in need of major renovations now. The hotel is orientated towards a swimming pool and sun trap at the back, which looks pleasant enough if a little dated. The hotel has a huge number of rooms, but was sold out when I turned up, mainly to coach bookings by the look of the car park. I was given an upgrade "deluxe" room.

The room was long and narrow, quite dark with a small balcony overlooking the pool. One feature that stood out was the 1980’s small CRT based TV sets which looks so out of place these days in a hotel.
Reception service was slow, it took a while to check in, but at least they had five staff doing this in what was a very cramped reception space. This seemed crazy as there is a huge amount of unused space on the ground floor. The staff were really pleasant, it can’t be easy dealing with the number of people they had checking in when space is at such a premium.

A number of very comfortable couches are scattered across a floor made of outdoor deck planking. This seems designed to get you in the mood for the outdoor area behind.

The 3 lifts are slow and insufficient for the number of guests. You need to push two buttons to attract them, the left buttons not being connected to the right. The lifts are all glass and rise up through the large central open atrium, my colleague doesn’t like heights and didn’t appreciate the glass lift.

The room certainly felt dated, not only by the TV but also due to the peeling wallpaper and cracked tiles. The outdoor area was in very poor condition, cracked and completely broken tiles, peeling paint and caulk falling out. The view however was pleasant enough and the pool seemed nice, though only two guests were swimming, most were enjoying the sun. It attracts an older crowd, most people seemed in their 50s or older.

The good points are its location, not too far from the city centre, an 8€ taxi ride, and its low price.

Room Tip: Go for a balcony room overlooking the pool

This hotel is like going into a timewarp to the 1970's
We had a suite which was large & comfortable with a very nice bathroom. Breakfast is not very good as large quanities are put on the buffet and not refreshed frequently.
It is an 8 euro taxi ride from the centre. However even though our reservation was guaranteed with AMEX they required pre-payment when checking in. We decided to stay an extra day and they demanded payment for the extras on the bill before extending the reservation. Clearly this hotel has financial difficulties and are trying to improve cash flow. I cannot think of any other reason for implementing such an insulting policy. Maybe the General Manager who I tried to see but was unavailable and I was told implemented this policy would like to comment on this review. Also make sure you do not use the laundry. We but about 15 items of underware and the bill came to 275 euros!!!!!!.

The hotel was a taxi or bus ride from city centre but the value was so good. The Hotel is lovely and our stay included a very good buffet breakfast every day. We saved a lot of money by not staying central and the journey was very direct and we even walked it one day. The cost of a taxi one way was around €6 and taxis were outside all the time, the bus journey cost €1.30 but you could wait half an hour for a bus so it made sense to take the taxi, and you are in the centre in 10 mins.

This is a large volume hotel located not very far from the heart of the city. It has the feel of a cookie cutter. Nothing wrong with that except I would expect everything to work perfectly in such a place. They didn't.

The check in cue was long. It was long when I checked out and was long the few times I went to the reception for help. The room had a faintly musty smell, probably because the carpets have been around for a long time. And they did not have wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby. I was thankful that every time I had to use the washroom of electricity I did not have to go the lobby.

And then there was the story with the safe. While travelling, I like to leave any extra cash, my electronics and my passport in the safe. My safe did not work. The electronic lights never came on. When I called the reception, they gave me the instructions to operate it first. When I convinced them that the problem was with the safe, the person on the other side suggested that the batteries of the safe may have died. As I was not carrying batteries, I asked her to get it fixed. I was told that it would be fixed "in a while." Half and hour and one more call later I stepped out without the safe being fixed. Two days later when I checked out the batteries had still not been installed.

I must note that the staff was courteous and friendly. Not necessarily helpful but friendly.
