“Pleasant rooms, but points away for a bad "rooftop view policy".”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

This hotel (which is now a Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel) promotes itself using its rooftop view of Sevilla cathedral. The view is indeed quite lovely, but guests unfortunately cannot expect that as part of their stay. The rooftop area is divided into two areas, one with the great view and one with no view to speak of. The hotel regularly rents out the better rooftop area for private parties and gatherings and so turfs out any hotel guests from that area as and when it suits them. This seems a rather unfair policy which is unlikely to win the hotel many friends, since the rooftop view is the hotel's best feature, and most hotel guests will believe that they have paid to enjoy it every bit as much as the "private party" has.

The cathedral view is not available from any of the rooms as the hotel is blocked in on narrow streets by buildings of the same height. When I climbed the cathedral tower, I noticed that there were other similar hotels nearby to the AC Fontecruz with pools and rooftop terraces, too. I will check out those options when I return to Seville.

This is quite a small hotel. The rooms are comfortable, and we did not experience any problems with the street noise other reviewers have described. However, the noise of the elevator running up and down late, late into the night was a little irritating. Why is the elevator so busy in a small hotel? It's moving private party goers up to the roof and down to the lobby!

The A/C in the room was very welcome. The over tub showers seem slightly dangerous to me as the tubs were slippery and you have to get around a glass screen. Not good for the aged, or drunk...of which I was neither. ;-)

Breakfast was only okay, but the breakfast staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The "fitness room" was nothing to get excited about. The splash pool was nice looking but the poolside would not comfortably accommodate many people at once.

Room Tip: Probably a pool side room away from the elevator if noise easily disturbs your sleep.

We stayed at this gorgeous hotel tucked away in the narrow cobblestone streets of Sevilla for a 3-day, 2-night visit. Could not have asked for a better experience. The rooms were clean and very nice and the staff was top notch -- they recommended a great, affordable flamenco show nearby and helped us book dinner at a restaurant. The hotel is a five to ten minute walk from most of Sevilla's major attractions, including the Cathedral, the Alcázar, the Santa Cruz neighborhood and the Plaza de España. Aside from a cheap cab from the train station, we never set foot on public transportation or in a taxi. There is also a beautiful rooftop terrace and lovely pool in the courtyard. Breakfast was terrific. I also think the hotel was extremely reasonably priced for the quality and unbeatable location. Will be staying here again without a second thought if I return to Sevilla!

This place was an excellent location- everything very walkable! The rooms are very clean and modern and it was very spacious compared to other hotels in spain. This was one of the only hotels we stayed at where the air conditioning actually worked! While we were there it seemed pretty empty. The lobby was nice and the rooftop deck seemed pretty nice as well. This was one of our favorite hotels while we were there.

Great location and first class facilities. Excellent friendly and helpful staff. Relatively small with good size rooms. Breakfast is a must to set you up for the days activities which are all within walking distance.

This hotel is a refurbished manor house in an incredible location. You are literally ten feet from the Sevilla Cathedral and the Alcazar Palace, which are two of the biggest sights to see in Sevilla. The hotel is also located very close to a cute street of nice tapas restaurants, which makes food very convenient.

The room itself was very nice and comfortable. Personally, I liked the purple, silver, and black decor; it gave the hotel a fun feeling. For the most part, the front desk staff is very nice and sweet, and the breakfast buffet was small but tasty.

One caution about this hotel though: due to its origin as a manor house, the entire hotel is not elevator accessible. The hotel has tried the best it can in this regard, but there a few "half-floors." Our room was located on such a floor which meant we did have a short flight of stairs to climb up and down before we could get to the main floor with the elevator. This meant that we did have to carry our luggage up and down these steps upon our arrival and exit. For people with physical impairments, make sure you check that you have received a room on the main floor. However, should you get a room on the main floor, it will be noisier as it does face the atrium. This is an unfortunate problem based on the hotel's origins.

Room Tip: My brother and I stayed in one room with two twin beds, and my parents stayed in room with one large...

This hotel has an amazing location, just 2 minutes walk from the cathedral. Our room was really comfortable with a king size bed and windows on two sides overlooking the little winding streets. The rooftop bar and pool are a bonus - we were the only ones brave enough to take a dip at the end of May - so refreshing after a lot of walking around the beautiful city.

The issue of noise is going to bug some people. The hotel's location means it is inevitable that there are lots of folk walking by, and the bins have to be emptied at some point. I think it is best to be aware of this and if you know you are a light sleeper (I am) then go prepared with your ear plugs - I did, and slept absolutely fine.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the back of the building are likely to be a little quieter - see review for comment...

The first impression of this hotel isn't bad. The location is charming and the actual, design is impressive. But then the fun begins.

The guy checking us in, Marco, was a New Yorker and as a former resident of the Big Apple I thought we had bonded enough that he would help me out when I mentioned I wanted a quiet room. I got a quiet room alright...quiet if your standards include windows which open onto an insanely busy street (hello 400am trash collection!). Not to mention the church bells that rang every fifteen minutes starting at 400 and which, from time to time, so loud that they seemed to be coming from within my room. Close the windows, you say? Sure but they aren't soundproof.

I could also tell you how the rooms are dark, how 1996 called and wants its decoration back and how the showers suck. I could also tell you how during the amazing religious procession we went up to the roof to view a group of locals was too busy kicking it to Happy by Pharelle for us to watch...but none of that really matters after The Night from Hell.

I hate this hotel.

Room Tip: If you value your sleep you'll stay somewhere else.
