We called to make a reservation last Saturday night, but the restaurant was fully booked. Nevertheless, we got a table in the tapas section, which allowed us to taste many things.
Acanthum has a short list of tapas and after an introduction by the chef, we decided to try four of them: the chocos (squid) black burger, boletus croquetas, grilled goat cheese and iberian pork.
We also got two very nice wines recommended. The service was very good, drinks and food were all served in time and the presentation on the dedicated plates was a joy for the eye. The food was really delicious and a refreshment from traditional Andalucian tapas. So, we decided to go for a dessert as well. The Iberian chocolate cake came at a hefty price but the taste was second to none and worth every cent !
We were already joking to give this resturant a 6-star rating on Tripadvisor when the unpleasant surprise came with the bill. The squid burgers were invoiced twice. Assuming that this was merely a mistake as we had clearly rehearsed with the chef after the discussion what we precisely wanted, we asked the waitress to correct the bill. To which she politely explained us that the chef had made us two burgers as they are very small and contrary to the other tapas not easy to share. We could have agreed with her on that if it hadn't been for the fact that the iberian pork tapa also consisted of two skewers with meat, that the croquetas tapa even consisted of 4 large croquetas and that the chef hadn't told us anything about the minuscule size of the burger beforehand. Neither did its price suggest that it could consist of only one coin-sized slice of fish. The waitress did not seem to care further, nor did she suggest to talk to the chef himself to clarify things. So her explanation felt as a cheap excuse for an expensive tapa we ended up paying.
In a restaurant that wants to play in the highest class of quality and price, one would expect a flawless service. It left an unpleasant bitter taste on the dark chocolate that was still tickling our taste buds.
We hope they can work on this. We'd really love to return to this restaurant.
