“Pleasant staff and service but location not central”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

Nice clean room but not too central to attractions – only 3 floors. All attractions to the left of hotel. We took a taxi from hotel to Alhambra (under 10 mins and euro $5.50). Too steep and windy to walk up. Most walk down but we saved our legs for the tour around Alhambra and for the rest of the day so we took bus no. 30 down (euro 1.20 each about 5 mins bus ride down to Cathedral). Cathedral closed from 1-4pm.

Public car parking just across the river immediately underground on the right. Hotel will stamp the ticket and you pay only euro 16 instead of euro 18 per night. We pulled up to the side of the road and unload our bags before we parked our car. We then walked from car park to hotel (just 5 mins). Very pleasant, polite and efficient check in and service – well spoken English. There was no need to ask as everything was explained with all attractions shown upon arrival. There is a big supermarket to the right of the hotel (less than 5 mins).

We were looking for one night's accommodation in the old part of Granada. Our aim was not to visit the Alhambra but to experience a bit more of Granada itself.
Searching through Tripadvisor produced any number of three star hotels in the old town near the Albaicin area.
We chose Hotel Las Almenas for no particular reason except that it was in the right area and they had a good special on a standard twin room at 45.00 Euros for the night and according to the very detailed directions it seemed easy to reach by car.
Reaching it was a nightmare. The very best advice we can give anybody is to enquire, when you book, about the nearest one or two parking garages. Travel light, park and walk to your hotel or take a taxi.
Las Almenas itself is great. Friendly staff, great position, quality information at the front desk in English and good service.
The room itself was perfectly clean Our request for extra pillows was promptly met and the beds were comfortable. WIFI reception was good but the batteries of the TV remote were flat and there are no manual controls on the set.

The area arond the hotel offers a wide choice of eateries and a couple of tremendous coffee shops/bakeries.
For the cultural side take a walk up Acera Del Darro to Calle Reyes Catolicos. Cross Plaza Nueva and continue along Carrera Del Darro to the end and then proceed along a bubbling stream to Paseo Del Padre Manjon. There you will find a choice of restaurants with a view of the walls of the Alhambra. Full of atmosphere for those with imagination and an inclination towards history.
The more intrepid traveller may continue further up with a steep road to the viewpoints over Granada. (marked Mirador on your street map)There are some nice restaurants in the side streets off this road with stunning views but they are not for budget travellers. Starters from 10 Euros and cheapest main course 18 Euros. I shudder to think what a bottle of Rioja would cost but they are charming establisments full of atmosphere and great views. If you feel like a splurge or celebrating a special occasion, go for it!. There is also a very regular little bus that runs up there . Ask at the hotel for details.
In summary Hotel Las Almenas is good, friendly, clean and affordable. Take the cost of parking into consideration if you travel by car - it adds a third to your bill, even after a small discount from Las Almenas.

Room Tip: If you plan to stay more than one or two nights, opt for the de luxe doubles or twins with a balcony...

GREAT value for the price. We were only in the room to sleep, as our trip to Granada was tightly booked with adventured, so the room was exactly what we needed. Room was clean, shower was hot and service was great. There was even a hair dryer (usually not standard in a room at this price). We got to Granada too early to check in, but the staff didnt hesitate to offer to hold our bags while we explored Granada. Likewise, on the day that we had to check out, our flight didnt leave until that evening so they offered the same. No hassles what so ever. And all with a smile. Awesome value for the price.

Great budget hotel for the price we paid. Nothing fancy nor modern, but clean (even though my husband killed 3 ants in the room) and friendly english speaking owner. Decent quiet room, but could still hear loud noises from the hallway, especially when cleaning lady working. Perfect location and walking distance to many restaurants, bus stop and the mall( cortes ingles).

Stayed here this past winter for 2 days. Overall, for its star level, the hotel was very clean and comfortable and was the perfect location to explore Granada. I would recommend it and stay here again.

This was the best value of all hotels we stayed in during our trip to Spain. The gentleman in reception couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The bathroom shower, with multi-selection nozzles, was wonderful after long days spent touring the Alhambra and Albaizin on foot. Were we to return to Granada, we would very much look forward to spending another pleasant stay at the Hotel Las Almenas.

This hotel provides good value and is in a good -- if not picturesque -- location on a main thoroughfare that runs along the edge of both the Jewish quarter and the Albaizin. (Some of the pictures make the exterior of the hotel look quaint, which it really isn't.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the gentleman at the front desk is nice and knowledgeable and speaks English well. The rooms are spartan but clean. Breakfast is not included but there is a little cafe/bar that adjoins the hotel that offers a simple breakfast menu. The one issue we had was noise -- the windows did not seem to be insulated as well as they needed to be given the location on the fairly busy street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor or perhaps one that does not have windows that open onto the main s...
