Extremely good value - the cheapest good hotel I stayed in Spain. Quite a long way out of town, but there is good bus service from near the hotel. Expensive bar - go around the corner towards the bus stop for a much better deal on drinks. Breakfast is not inclusive and is fairly expensive, but no alternatives in the area. The room rate overcomes all other obstacles, and I would stay here again with no reservations.

I would have given this hotel an "excellent" rating if not for the 5 Euro cab fare to the Alhambra, although it is not much farther to it than others. It costs a little over 5 Euro to get to Plaza Nueva, and slightly less to the Gran Via and Plaza del Carmen. This hotel is not in main street, but to me, that is a plus.

Hotel interiors are very avantgarde, and its facilities including the rooms are well cared for, and clean. Cable TV, room safe, refrigerator and bath tub are standard. WIFI is free. The hotel lobby is spacious, compared to European standards. Overnight parking is 8 Euro, or free if you find roadside space in front of the hotel. Bus no. 33 services points between the hotel and Plaza Nueva (and cuts through town via El Corte Ingles, Gran Via, and Plaza del Carmen).

The buffet breakfast is worth the 10 Euros that the hotel charges. The coffee is fabulous.

I can't imagine staying in any other hotel in Granada. This hotel is a 150++ Euro value. For the price I paid on yeego.com (i.e. 70 Euro), this lovely hotel in Granada may well be second to none.

I've stayed in Hotel Juan Miguel 4 years ago and paid 60 Euro. The cheapest quote I got last week for the same room was approximately 100 Euro. I would gladly pay more to stay at the Macia.

P.S. After a tiring day, use of the arabic bath and spa is a must for 16 Euro.

I selected this hotel for a short break after reading some good reports on Trip Advisor. So my detailed review follows .... This hotel is still virtually brand new and is kept in excellent condition (as you will see from my photographs.) The hotel is approximately 3 miles from the Centre of Granada, but frankly Granada is so small when compared to Madrid, Barcelona etc. that it really doesn't matter. Public Buses in Granada are excellent and a bus into the city leaves the front of the hotel every 10 minutes. It's a five minute journey, costing about one Euro per trip. Taxi's generally five or six Euros into the City, and thirty Euros to (or from) the Airport. You can also get a bus from the Airport into the city which is fine and cost only three Euros, then jump on a number 33 bus and ask the Driver to put you off at Ctra de la Sierra 6 (which is the bus stop opposite the hotel). Despite what it may say on some of the reports on this site we found that ALL staff at this hotel were exceptionally helpful and very friendly throughout our stay. The Reception Staff were excellent English Speakers, and really we had no problems communicating whatsoever with any of the staff (maids, bar staff, pool staff etc.)The staff at the hotel could not have been more helpful on our last day - We checked out on time at 12 noon, but our flight was not until 9 pm in the evening. Our bags were safely stored away and we we're free to use all of the amenities at the hotel, including the pool and there are an abundance of general seating areas for relaxing, reading etc. Although this hotel has everything that a four star should have, plus multinational guests we also liked the fact that it is well used by Spanish people (particularly at the weekend.) So in summary an excellent hotel, high quality fixtures and fittings throughout, friendly staff and an excellent price, so what are you waiting for ?

the best place for drivers in Granada

Hotel Macia Real de la Alhambra is the best place for drivers because it is right off the highway and has very secure yet cheap 8 Euro parking.
The biggest problem for drivers in Granada is that car entry into town is highly restricted and monitored by cameras that take picture of your license plate. So, if you don't register your license plate with your hotel ahead of time (they will inform the police that your car will enter town) you'll get a nasty ticket once you drive into the restricted zone. But even if you get access into town you get will get stuck in a mess of one-way streets...especially near the alhambra.

So why hassle when there is this great hotel that avoids that mess. Although this hotel is not in the center of town it is only a 15 minute busride into the middle of town or a 5 to 8 euro cab ride (depends on traffic and time of day). The only problem about the location is that the return bus ends before midnight so after midnight you must cab.

The hotel itself is very modern with a nice lounge that serves tasty sandwiches. The breakfast was expensive and not very impressive. The room was big, modern and clean. The bathroom was very clean and "trendy".

The only negative about the room was that the room was obviously smoked in even though we asked for a non-smoking room.

Overall the hotel is excellent if you are a driver. However, if you aren't driving then why hassle with the bus/cabs into town since there are other equivalent hotels in the heart of town

  • Liked — great for drivers with cheap parking
  • Disliked — bus ends at midnight

While the Hotel Macia Real de la Alhambra is outside the city center, it's modern decor, helpful staff and clean rooms make it a great value for Granada and it should be highly considered by anyone seeking rooms in this price range.

Many others have posted useful information about the hotel in their reviews - instead I'll try to summarize what I think are the most useful tips and information for this hotel and Granada.

1. There are several other (three?) Macia hotels in Granada. Make sure you have the correct name and address, a small map is better to give to the taxi driver, to avoid going to the wrong one.

2. The taxi fare, one way from the train station, should be about €10 - from the Bus Station it's usually under €15.

3. Left Luggage or Luggage Storage is no longer available at the train station. The Bus Station however, has lockers for a couple euro for 8 hours.

4. It's a good idea to take a taxi from the Hotel to the Alhambra and then walk down into the city after - instead of the other way around, as it's a downhill walk this way.

5. Book online, either directly through the hotel website or another third party - except for peak times, expect to pay no more than €60 per double per night.

Overall, this is a great value hotel. It's quite new, so that means new plumbing and new elevators and such - this is in contrast to most hotels in the city center, or near the Alhambra - something to consider if those things are important to you.
