Hotel Macia Real de la Alhambra is the best place for drivers because it is right off the highway and has very secure yet cheap 8 Euro parking.
The biggest problem for drivers in Granada is that car entry into town is highly restricted and monitored by cameras that take picture of your license plate. So, if you don't register your license plate with your hotel ahead of time (they will inform the police that your car will enter town) you'll get a nasty ticket once you drive into the restricted zone. But even if you get access into town you get will get stuck in a mess of one-way streets...especially near the alhambra.

So why hassle when there is this great hotel that avoids that mess. Although this hotel is not in the center of town it is only a 15 minute busride into the middle of town or a 5 to 8 euro cab ride (depends on traffic and time of day). The only problem about the location is that the return bus ends before midnight so after midnight you must cab.

The hotel itself is very modern with a nice lounge that serves tasty sandwiches. The breakfast was expensive and not very impressive. The room was big, modern and clean. The bathroom was very clean and "trendy".

The only negative about the room was that the room was obviously smoked in even though we asked for a non-smoking room.

Overall the hotel is excellent if you are a driver. However, if you aren't driving then why hassle with the bus/cabs into town since there are other equivalent hotels in the heart of town

  • Liked — great for drivers with cheap parking
  • Disliked — bus ends at midnight

While the Hotel Macia Real de la Alhambra is outside the city center, it's modern decor, helpful staff and clean rooms make it a great value for Granada and it should be highly considered by anyone seeking rooms in this price range.

Many others have posted useful information about the hotel in their reviews - instead I'll try to summarize what I think are the most useful tips and information for this hotel and Granada.

1. There are several other (three?) Macia hotels in Granada. Make sure you have the correct name and address, a small map is better to give to the taxi driver, to avoid going to the wrong one.

2. The taxi fare, one way from the train station, should be about €10 - from the Bus Station it's usually under €15.

3. Left Luggage or Luggage Storage is no longer available at the train station. The Bus Station however, has lockers for a couple euro for 8 hours.

4. It's a good idea to take a taxi from the Hotel to the Alhambra and then walk down into the city after - instead of the other way around, as it's a downhill walk this way.

5. Book online, either directly through the hotel website or another third party - except for peak times, expect to pay no more than €60 per double per night.

Overall, this is a great value hotel. It's quite new, so that means new plumbing and new elevators and such - this is in contrast to most hotels in the city center, or near the Alhambra - something to consider if those things are important to you.

Stayed for 2 nights at end of September as a base for visit to Alhambra. Hotel was easy to find and we enjoyed our stay very much. Parked car(free) outside hotel and found reception staff very helpful. Room was very good, as was breakfast. We also had dinner which was a little expensive but very nice.
Hotel is ideally situated for both Granada city and the Alhambra Palace although different buses are required from outside the hotel; no.33 for city and 13 for palace- all fares 1.10 euros. Would certainly recommend this hotel for any visitor but found 2 days in Granada was long enough.

We stayed six nights in this hotel in September and it was beautiful. We used the bus regularly, the bus-stop is nearby and the bus goes directly to the centre of the lovely city that is Granada. Driving in Granada is perilous. Only a foolhardy visitor would have a go! The buses are frequent and inexpensive and since the hotel is on the outskirts of the town, transport is necessary.
We took a taxi to the Alhambra, approx 5 Euro and good value.
Our stay was somewhat marred by the 16 Euro taxi fare we were charged to travel from the hotel to the bus-station on our departure. I did inform the hotel by email giving them the number of the taxi since they had ordered it for us but got no response. A pity after such an enjoyable stay.

This is a lovely, smart and modern hotel. On arrival we got in early as the room was ready. The chap on reception was really helpful.

Rooms and bathrooms were lovely, very clean and modern with all the facilities you’d expect (including free toothbrushes). Mini bar in room but no tea/coffee making facilities.

Pay for your parking at reception when you leave (8 euros per day) as opposed to 1 euro per hour using the machine.

Don't recommend driving into Granada centre – it’s manic! You can pick up a bus outside the hotel and it’s just a few minutes to centre. Granada centre has a mixture of old and new buildings, lots of lovely shops and plenty of places to eat or just sit and watch the world go by.

We walked to the Alhambra from town centre and it just took about 15 to 20 mins (mostly uphill).

The hotel restaurant service was good but the food was just OK. The fish and veg I had were swimming in olive oil which got a bit much towards the end. The steak my OH had was rare, despite requesting medium - he had to return it but still came back the same. Was starting to realise why the restaurant wasn't busy and I'd say this is one area the hotel could improve on. Two courses for 2 people, with wine, came to around 65 euros. We decided to give brekkie a miss (although had heard good things about it from other guests).

Nice outdoor swimming pool and sunbeds on the first floor for guest use.

Hotel bar atmosphere was very relaxing with the option to buy snacks.

All staff at the hotel are really friendly. Big tip: Brush up on your Spanish basics, because most staff don’t speak or understand English.

Would definitely return (but would eat elsewhere!) and would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
