My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights in January 2007 at the end of a touring holiday in Andalusia. For anyone who isn't aware, there are currently some major redevelopments taking place in the centre of Granada, which doesn't make it easy trying to find your hotel. That leads me to my first problem in that directions to the hotel led me up to the front door. I mistakenly thought that I had reserved parking at the hotel, only to be informed that I had to park in the nearby St Augstin multi-storey. This is about 150 metres away from the hotel, but necessitates the use of the lift in the car park (which can be difficult on a Saturday afternoon), and having to cross a major road. The cost for two days parking was 40 Euros.
We did not find the staff very friendly and it wasn't helped by the fact that we hardly speak Spanish, and that in one particular case, the receptionist did not speak any English.
The room was 603 on the Sixth floor and overlooked the main Calle Elvira. This is an area of Moroccan Bazaar- type shops, North African tea houses and Kebab shops. The room itself was clean with an excellent bathroom, although instructions would have been useful in respect of how the all-singing and dancing shower worked. The walls are very thin, and we had one night's sleep disturbed when our neighbours decided to watch the television at 2.30am. Would I go back to this hotel......if it was low season and you could guarantee that there were no other guests in the hotel, then possibly. On checking out, the receptionist was obviously on the telephone to what appeared to be a close friend/boyfriend, and dealt with us by way of grunts and pointing, whilst continuing her telephone conversation.....no, I don't think we would return.
Granada is a pleasant city, and The Alhambra is everything and more that you could expect. Tapas bars in Granada still provide free tapas with your first drink and for atmosphere and interest, I would recommend Bodegas Castaneda, Calle Almireceros near the hotel. We also had a lovely lunch at the Puerta Del Carmen in the Plaza Del Carmen
