My fiancee and I stayed at Hostal Lima for three nights in July, 2008. We reserved in advance through the owner's website (just google it) and, based on the price, were expecting only basic quality and comfort. We were ultimately very pleasantly surprised at the immaculate quality of this fine boutique hotel and of the exceptional service of the owner and staff. It was our favourite hotel out of about 20 we stayed in across Europe and was also the lowest priced (excepting traditional hostels). This is no "hostel" or budget-travellers "just need to rest my head" hotel. We recommended the hotel to my fiancee's parents and would stay again in a heartbeat, regardless of our budget.
Location:
The hotel was about 10min. walk from the train station and is just steps off a lively square, close to great restaurants, shops and the center of old town. There are actually two 'locations' but they are right next to each other and, from what we could tell, virtually identical. The mini bus to the Alhambra is a short walk away. We found the location perfect - right near all the great things you hear about Granada but still allowed for a very quiet and restful night.
Ambiance:
This is where Hostal Lima really sets itself apart by providing the guest with a unique hotel experience. The hotel is clearly recently renovated and everything looks brand new. There are priceless one-of-a-kind works of art throughout the building, including a 900 year-old giant clay urn in the lobby the owner claims was discovered during renovations. Then there are the rooms - we had booked a basic double for 40E but agreed for a tour of other rooms that ran between 60-90E. These deluxe rooms were some of the nicest and most unique hotel rooms I have ever seen (and I regularly stay 4* on business and pleasure); gorgeous artwork, gian beds, incredible decorations, flat-screen TV's and really nice bathrooms and showers. We were on a budget and stayed with the basic double, which I can attest was immaculate and very comfortable.
Service:
The owner, whose name escapes me, was very very friendly and gave us great (and unsolicited) advice for experiencing Granada, including his favourite tappas bars etc. Rooms were cleaned daily.
I will try to add photos later.
