1st, if you are flying in from elsewhere confirm the price with the Taxi before leaving. Their website gives an approximation to the Albayzin...agree to it before...
The hotel is like being in a private residence. We stayed on the top floor in an interior room (#7) and it was very nice. There were numerous pieces of carved wood, in typical "Andalusian Style" as well as a very nice shower/tub that was welcome after a long day of walking through the winding streets.
Looking out the 3rd floor allows views across the ravine straight to the Alhambra and it is beautiful any time of the day.
Staff were helpful and they had a laptop that was available for internet use, or they have wireless that you can use on your own computer.
The only problem we had was a music festival in October. We heard the concert until 3:30 in the morning! But alas, it was vacation and will serve as a great memory.

3 days in Granada for New Year's Eve, at Santa Isabel la Real. We find most other reviews quite accurate, so I'll just add a few comments:
* for any price quoted, you must add 7 % IVA (VAT) E.g. breakfast is 10.70 EUR, not 10 (quite pricey for Spain)
* I found room 2 (ground floor) to be poorly soundproofed, you can really hear the neighbors, especially using their bathrooms.
* heating was excellent (important in winter, as it was freezing at night)
* room 2 has a window that opens only onto the patio, so it gets little natural light. I suppose this is a plus in the summer heat, though
* watch out for the sign 'se venden pasteles' on the gate of the convent next door. When it's up, you can buy homemade cookies from the nuns.
* the Flamenco show the hotel recommends and books for you at Los Tarantos is not a good show, we were disappointed.
* nice, helpful staff
* walking up from the Catedral bus stop or from Plaza Nueva is steep but not so long (15 minutes up, 10 mn down)
All in all a really nice experience at this hotel. And there is really plenty to do in Granada for 3 days, making it an ideal long week-end destination.

This is a little gem of a place situated in the old quarter of Granada. Buses to take you to the centre of the city and the Alhambra literally stop out outside the door. It has a traditional courtyard interior but also has the benefit of a lift for getting your luggage up to the higher floors. Prices are fair and the staff were very helpful with advice on getting around the city and good places to eat. The hotel only provides breakfast. The buffet was not enormous but in a small hotel it was as much as you can expect.

I would highly recommend it.

We just returned from a Spain/Portugal trip and enjoyed our stay at the Santa Isabel la Real, a cozy renovated home in the Albayzin district of Granada. The room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Nonsmoking property. Staff was friendly and helpful in general, particularly the kind woman who helped us at check in with our lost baggage coming in by air from Madrid, and offered to call the airline for us. However, the staff person the next day wasn't very helpful and didn't offer to help call the airline for us (not fluent Spanish speakers) when we still hadn't gotten our luggage, and in fact, suggested we call ourselves as "it was free or little cost" -- and we ended up getting charged for the call. Only a bit more than 1 Euro but still....
The breakfast was very good, but was an additional 10 EURO per person, quite pricey. But we didn't seem to find anything much better for breakfast around the hotel, so the convenience factor won out.
The local bus stopped right in front of the hotel and goes throughout town and to the Alhambra, which was super.
Overall, a nice stay but we might consider a more centrally located hotel in the future.

  • Liked — clean and comfortable, bus right outside hotel
  • Disliked — pricey breakfast and room cost/night compared to other Spain hotels

Probably one of the best hotels we have stayed in.........we could not fault it. The original building has been retained and the internals are nicely appointed.
Location in the Albacyn district (much to see here too) is good and most points of interest in Granada can be reached on foot.

The staff and service are wonderful and it is such a pleasure to return to a "home from home" each day after sightseeing.

Rather pricey but worth it !!
