This is an elegant, imaculately clean and perfectly appointed small hotel. We stayed for 4 days in June, and were very pleased with our choice. The interiors of the hotel are cool and calm - which after a hot day in the Granada sun, is very welcome.

Breakfast and afternoon drinks were had on a small terrace, overlooking the city of Granada - in fact the hotel has a great view of Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Breakfast was simple, but good - especially the Spanish Toast, and an honesty bar was available if drinks were desired in the evenings.

Manuel was helpful, gave advice on travel, the Alhambra, queuing, restaurants, lent us maps - in fact could not have been more helpful or accommodating. I find it unbeleivable reading one of the other reviews that anyone could have had any unpleasant experience with him at all, he was always utterly charming (and apologised profusely for his 'poor' english).

Unless someone is looking for the 'big hotel' experience, I would recommend this hotel without any hesitation.

my wife and i stayed five nights, in the 'Bouganvillea' suite. the hotel is small (seven rooms) immaculately clean, well appointed and only five minutes' very pleasant uphill walk to the Alhambra. the owner/manager, Manuel, could not have been more helpful: he is a fount of useful knowledge, which he is at pains to impart. nothing is too much trouble. highest recommendation.

  • Liked — location, accommodation, friendly and helpful staff
  • Disliked — beautifully renovated but a little bland in taste

We stayed here for 2 nights in May and were very happy with our choice. The other reviews were definitely spot on.

We stayed in El Cipres which had a terrace/balcony and en suite. Our room was very comfortable and decorated nicely. Manuel is very hospitable and helpful - Thank you Manuel! We recommend having the Spanish toast, it's very yummy!

The Carmen is situated very close to the Alhambra and a few minutes walk down to the centre of Granada. It has very pretty views of the Sierra Nevada as well as the city.

A very fabulous stay!

This hotel was very clean with beautiful views. Also a very close walk to the Alhambra as well as down the hill to a number of restaurants and shopping. Breakfast was fantastic(one of the best on our 3 week trip through Spain and Portugal). It included toast spread with tomato puree, cheese and olive oil. (Ham included if one so choose). The one thing that would keep me from going back is that everytime my husband or I tried to speak spanish to the innkeeper he would lauph and make comments in spanish that we did not understand. When he was done being amused by us he would revert to English. Both my husband and I noticed this and we both felt insulted and discouraged. Admittedly our Spanish needs work but having someone laugh at ones attempts does not foster a very good reaction. So despite the fact this is a very nice hotel I would never choose to return. Should you choose to go I am sure you will have a nice time overall especially if your Spanish is up to the innkeepers standards.

  • Liked — location, cleanliness.
  • Disliked — innkeeper's attitude.

We stayed here for 4 nights (17-21 May) and can only agree with the previous reviews. The hotel is tucked away up a hill from the centre of town, but don't let that put you off. It is an easy 10 minute walk to Plaza Nueva. In the other direction, it is close to Campo del Principe which has some excellent tapas bars.

There are 2 things which set this hotel apart: first, its simple but elegant interiors, and secondly the owner, Manuel.

As to the hotel itself, it has only 7 rooms, which are light and airy. 3 have private balconies, and for the others there is a lovely terrace covered in wisteria and bouganvillia with views towards the Sierra Nevada mountains. The interior floors are tiled with white marble and there is very pleasant sitting room on the ground floor with many travel and picture books of the local area.

The breakfast is prepared each morning by Manuel and served on the terrace. He will make you his trademark Spanish toast on request. The coffee is good.

As with the previous reviewers, Manuel gave us a lot of advice about where to eat and drink in Granada and which attractions to visit. All of it was accurate.

We arrived late into Granada airport but the hotel had offered to arrange a taxi to collect us on arrival, so we were on our way within minutes of clearing the baggage reclaim area.

If you are looking for a place to stay with excellent, personal service, in a beautiful, quiet location but close to the centre of Granada and to the Alhambra, I would recommend this hotel without reservation.
