We had a wonderful stay in Granada in April and thought that the Carmen was a good value for the money. We booked the Bouganvilla room, as the Torre and El Cipre were already taken. There was a tiny sitting area upon entering, then the bedroom, with a small balcony overlooking the city below. The bathroom was small (and the tub was short - not much room to soak) - but what made our stay special was our host, Manuel, and the receptionist (whom I think was Ana, but it''s been several months...)
The location is, as others have noted, right up by the Alhambra, and just down the path from the Alhambra Palace hotel. We took their advice and picked up our tickets the evening before, from the machines farther up the hill, so that we could save some time in the morning.
The breakfast at the hotel was a typical continental breakfast of toast with tomatoes, fruit and coffee, served in a small breakfast room by Manuel.
I am surprised to hear the other reviewer saying that Manuel talked too much, as we found him to take his cues from us. Both my husband and I had some interesting conversations with him, some about art and architecture, and discovered later that he is a professor at the university in the arts department.
We were very glad we took their recommendation for lunch at Oliver, down in the center of Granada, where we had a fabulous meal with gazpacho, dorado, and roasted vegetables that was one of the best of our trip to Spain.
