The perfect hotel from which to explore the Alhambra and city of Granada.

We stayed in the Santa Domingo room, which had a wonderful view over the city and the plain of Granada. The hotel is beautifully furnished throughout. Manuel and Anna are the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, and their willingness to help and offer advice was a joy!!

We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the Alhambra, which is a 5 minute walk away. However we were also pleased to find that the location was also good for exploring the historic city centre with is wonderful selection of restaurants and tapas bars.

Thanks to Anna for some top tips on which tapas bars to try!!

I have just been to this Carmen on a last minute trip with my boyfriend. We could not get into any of the hotels on the i-escape website and then I saw this one on trip advisor and they had a room. Great location, great price, fantastic service, amazing rooms with great views. This is exactly what you want in Granada as it is near the Alhambra, quiet (some hotels are aparently very noisy), lovely terrace to chill out on as sight seeing can be quite tiring!, fantastic advice. We are a young couple and wanted to go out and party and though this is a very quiet carmen it is perfectly located near the best bars in town but far away enough to sleep in in the morning!! The hotel is very clean and they have a lovely little cafe area where they serve a fantastic breakfast and you can help yourself to drinks 24/7.

We stayed here for 2 nights in March 2008. This place is more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. It is about a 15 minute walk to the Alhambra and Cathedral. It is tucked away on a hill, so the views are great. We enjoyed sitting out on the common terrace with a wonderful territorial view. We felt as though we were living in a mansion. We loved the city of Ganada and this was a welcome place to come home to after a day of sightseeing.

We were so glad we stayed in this hotel. We loved the intimate atmosphere, the attention to detail in the decoration of the rooms, the view, the scents of the garden - the wisteria was in flower as we were there. The situation is also perfect - a few steps to the Alhambra, but fine to walk down the hill into town, or down the other side of the hill into Albaicin - steep walk down the gorge but lovely. We had the Buganvilla room which has a pretty little terrace and a bathroom with a small bath, very comfortable. As per the other reviews here, special mention to the staff, Manuel the owner, and his hand made breakfasts, with garden-grown oranges, and also Anna. They speak English, and are friendly and quick to help.
The best part of all is that you feel you are staying in a friendly house - not overwhelming but there to make you feel at home.
We would certainly stay again and also our teenage boys felt how charming it was.
We had to park up the hill from the hotel but it was no problem, and the staff will help with luggage if you need it.

  • Disliked — Nothing to dislike about the hotel, city noises during the day

I led a small party of 5 couples for a long weekend break in this fascinating city and selected this hotel largely on the great reviews of Tripadvisor pundits.

We were not let down - the position of this small hotel is wonderful, within walking distance of the Alhambra Palace and then the town itself just 10 minutes walk down the hill in the other direction.

The staff were incredibly attentative and helped us in every way - from recommending restaurants to eat in to daily itineraries for our city exploring or Sierra Nevada walking. The owner Manuel was there to welcome us, say farewell and his encyclopedia knowledge of Granada was fantastic.

The hotel setting high overlooking the plains and mountains is absorbing and the tranquility of the terraces and gardens most welcoming after the hustle of the city.

Should we ever visit Granada again the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol is the only place we would stay.
