My boyfriend and I were traveling through Spain (Barcelona, Granada, and Madrid) and this was our favorite place along the way. In fact, it is quite possibly the most pleasant hotel stay I have ever had! The hotel is beautiful--very well-kept, tasteful decor, terraces with incredible views of the city and the Sierra Nevadas. It's an easy walk down into town or up to the Alhambra or the Albayzin. The color scheme and the airy feel of the place were serene and calming. We almost didn't want to leave to see the sights.
We stayed in El Cipres, a double on the second floor. It was painted a lovely muted color, had ample closet space and very soft bedsheets. It also had its own small terrace, perfect for reading in the afternoon or sipping wine in the evening. Breakfast or drinks were served on a larger communal terrace with a lovely fountain and amazing views. The breakfast was simple but bountiful--pan con tomate, ham, cheese, cereals, yoghurt, fresh juice, coffee, etc.--and a reasonable 8 Euros extra.
But the real highlight of the place is its staff. Manuel, the owner, is, as others have mentioned, a wonderful host. He's charming and kind, and a tremendous resource for anything you might want to do in Granada, from walking tours to restaurants. My map was filled with his markings by the time we left. Paula, who works at the desk at night, is also lovely, and went out of her way to help me book our bus tickets for Madrid. We felt right at home at this lovely carmen, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a small hotel with a personal touch.
