We've just spent 5 days in Granada, booked at the last minute. Horrendously early Ryanair flight but at least we were there for lunchtime. We followed advice and took the bus from the airport but unfortunately had a bit of communication problem with the driver and had to get a taxi when we got off. That wasn't too bad, about 4 or 5 euros, but when we got to the hotel - the Gran Luna de Granada- booked specifically for a pool, we were asked "Do you want the good news or the bad news?" ! There was no room - supposedly because of a leak - but we were being moved to their new hotel, the 5star Nazaries. I asked if it had a pool and was told "No" but there's a spa. And when I said that the whole point of booking there was for the pool, I was told, "Our pool isn't open" !! Beware, I booked through Hotels.com, who seemed to have the best price, but had made no mention of this fact. To cut a long story short, the Nazaries was very smart, all black marble and stuff and big flat screen tv (CNN on a loop!) but if we'd paid the going rate of 250 euros a night I'd have been extremely disappointed. The air conditioning took 3 men to sort, you were asked not to adjust it yourself! There was one smallish tinted window, so we had to have the lights on all day, whenever we were in. Nice new wardrobes, but not a single drawer, and the biggest insult of all, the beautiful spa cost 25 euros an hour to use! (We didn't!) All this on the 1st day, after a 3.30 rise, was enought to put us off. However, after a good night's sleep, we started to make the most of Granada. It was very busy and crowded but we enjoyed our few days. The Alhambra was amazing, the Albaicin district was great, the free tapas were wonderful and weather hot! Worth a visit if you're considering it. Nice little park that you may not find if you don't know about it is the Frederick Lorca park, really pretty and fresh on a hot day, when you haven't got a pool to cool off by! It's south from the cathedral, just look on any of the free maps. Also, the science park, if you're looking for something a bit different to while away an hour or two.
