As other reviewers testify, this is a lovely hotel. Thoughtfully designed with a mix of ancient and modern, extremely helpful staff, peaceful communal areas, a wonderful and unusual courtyard, and fantastic breakfast treats.we had a spa bath room, which was superb - and lovely thick wooden shutters kept out every spec of light for a very peaceful sleep. Also, FABULOUS toiletries - no expense spared! It's a super location for exploring the old town and going up the Alhambra - can easily walk to/from all sights from here. Only word of warning is, arrive by taxi or foot - do not attempt to drive there yourself or drop off your own stuff in a hire care. the road outside is VERY narrow and you will get beeped, abused and railroaded by all the traffic - as we did. we then had a terrifying drive around the one way system of granada trying to find our car hire drop off point. horrendous, don't do it.

  • Liked — Luxurious facilities i.e. spa bath, bed/linen quality, toiletries, breakfast
  • Disliked — A bit noisy, but that's Spain for you!
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don't drive there, and don't eat around the Plaza Nueva - it's a rip off, obviously.

Everything about this hotel is special -- from the lobby, to the rooms named after famous Spanish authors ( complete with their portrait and books about them in each room), to the beds, jacuzzis in the bathrooms, location and service.
If you go to Granada, this is THE place to stay.

Four of us stayed here for a 50th birthday celebration in the beautiful city of Granada, and the Hotel provided all it said on the tin. The staff were helpful, spoke English, and arranged tickets and trips for us.
Several members on Tripadvisor warned of the street noise. It was true, it could be loud on Friday and Saturday night until about 2.30am. But earplugs were recommended, and I have to say they are a must for an unbroken sleep. But don't let this deter you. I loved the Hotel and the City. In fact I loved the City so much that when i returned home, I enrolled for a full months language course in the Albaicin through November, and the Hotel staff invited me to call in for coffee during my visit. I don't think that would happen in Britain. Well done El Ladron de Agua.

What a lovely hotel! The location is perfect. You can hop on a bus for 1 euro and get to the Alhambra. The hotel lobby, within a courtyard, is just a welcoming oasis when you first stepped into the hotel.

The staff is very friendly. The rooms are nice. We had the smallest room. But the atmosphere made up for it. The bathroom toiletries are very good.

The breakfast is in the cellar and I would definitely recommend it, not the best value but it was a good breakfast.

It is the perfect hotel to get you in the mood to visit the Alhambra.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during a driving tour enroute to Sevilla. It's true that arriving at the hotel can be a little hectic, as the hotel is somewhat difficult to find, you must unload your bags quickly to avoid blocking the street, and then navigate to a public parking garage to leave you vehicle (about 30 euros for 24 hours of parking). However, if you have a gps navigation system to guide you (or take a taxi), it's not that difficult.

If your stay in Granada is short like ours, the hotel's location is perfect though, because it is close to all the major sights. The hotel only serves breakfast, but there are many good places to eat nearby. We had a great dinner at Azafran, which is just up the street from the hotel.

Our main reason for visiting Granada was visiting the Alhambra. If you intend to see the Alhambra, it is very important to reserve your tickets before you go, and the hotel can do this for you to simplify matters. The hotel lobby and courtyard are very peacefull and pleasant and make a fantastic first impression (this was my wife's favorite hotel during our vacation). There is also a nice reading room off the courtyard, complete with a computer and free internet access.

I booked a standard room for 98 euros on the hotel website. Our room, 105, was large with a window facing the side alleyway. The ceiling was beautiful with original wood beams with lots of details. The room had a ceramic tile floor, wardrobe, and a comfortable bed. The room we had was handicap accessible as well. All in all, the room was great, and we were very pleased. Breakfast was nine euros per person, and was average but completely sufficient.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay, and would love to return some day for another visit. It's a beautiful small hotel with so much charm and character, it made our stay in Granada very memorable.

  • Liked — unique property, great location
  • Disliked — mediocre breakfast
  • Tips/Secrets: — Try the nearby Restaurant Azafran for lunch or dinner
