My wife and I stayed here for one night during a driving tour enroute to Sevilla. It's true that arriving at the hotel can be a little hectic, as the hotel is somewhat difficult to find, you must unload your bags quickly to avoid blocking the street, and then navigate to a public parking garage to leave you vehicle (about 30 euros for 24 hours of parking). However, if you have a gps navigation system to guide you (or take a taxi), it's not that difficult.

If your stay in Granada is short like ours, the hotel's location is perfect though, because it is close to all the major sights. The hotel only serves breakfast, but there are many good places to eat nearby. We had a great dinner at Azafran, which is just up the street from the hotel.

Our main reason for visiting Granada was visiting the Alhambra. If you intend to see the Alhambra, it is very important to reserve your tickets before you go, and the hotel can do this for you to simplify matters. The hotel lobby and courtyard are very peacefull and pleasant and make a fantastic first impression (this was my wife's favorite hotel during our vacation). There is also a nice reading room off the courtyard, complete with a computer and free internet access.

I booked a standard room for 98 euros on the hotel website. Our room, 105, was large with a window facing the side alleyway. The ceiling was beautiful with original wood beams with lots of details. The room had a ceramic tile floor, wardrobe, and a comfortable bed. The room we had was handicap accessible as well. All in all, the room was great, and we were very pleased. Breakfast was nine euros per person, and was average but completely sufficient.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay, and would love to return some day for another visit. It's a beautiful small hotel with so much charm and character, it made our stay in Granada very memorable.

  • Liked — unique property, great location
  • Disliked — mediocre breakfast
  • Tips/Secrets: — Try the nearby Restaurant Azafran for lunch or dinner

The location of this small hotel was fantastic. We could look straight across the river to the Alhambra above us, walk a mile to the gypsy caves, or walk out the back door straight to the Albayzin. Other hotels are located eight or more blocks away in a very commercial section of town.

The room were great, and th staff could not have been nicer. The "thief of water" hotel is the perfect place to stay in Granada. We were there for three nights.

  • Liked — The furnishings and common areas.
  • Disliked — Nothing.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Try to stay on the ide of the hotel facing the Alhambra. A little noisier, but the view is great.

Stayed for two nights in August. Absolutely no need for a car as the local transport is first class. Parking relatively easy. Whilst you are at the base of the Alhambra, unless you have the constitution of a mountain goat it's advisable to get a bus to visit the attraction (1E) as the climb is near vertical! On the flat, a stroll of 1 minute to a local square with restaurants, bars and 3 minutes to the Cathedral and shopping area. The hotel is very serene, with good standards. There are only about 12 rooms. Because of the narrow, pedestrianised streets, early morning refuse collection seems the norm, but it was a small price to pay for such a good find.

Ideal for a romantic weekend or an historic sightsee. The reception staff are very helpful with restaurant suggestions. Well recommended.

Had a lovely stay here in September 2006.

Very hard to post anything except wonderful comments:

Staff on reception were always very helpful and spoke excellent English.

Location couldn't be bettered as it's on a beautiful cobbled street on the edge of the Albaicin near Plaza Nueva.

The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean (with excellent toiletries in the bathroom) with an excellent view from the balcony up to the Alhambra

Breakfast was the most comprehensive in Andalucia (we toured a little) with lots of cakes, bread, tortilla, excellent jamon y queso with lots of lovely marmalades, jams and olive oils (husband interrupts me here to give a special mention for the red pepper marmalade). Freshly squeezed orange juice and tea and coffee complete the picture.
There is free internet access in the library and the hotel lobby/reception area is light and airy with a gently burbling fountain and cool white furniture.

The reception staff also booked our tickets for the Alhambra (so we didn't have to queue with the plebs) and brought fresh tea and coffee to our room (for a small charge).

Oh, and the jacuzzi is lovely after a day pounding the hilly, cobbled streets of Granada, with yummy bath salts provided - perfect for relaxing those aching calf muscles. Afterwards you can slip into a the fluffy bathrobe provided.

Overall it's just a fantastic oasis of calm in a busy city.

Possibly the only criticism is that we had a twin room and no doubles were available. Que sera!

Must recommend (other than the Alhambra, which everyone goes to anyway) Bodegas Castaneda on Calle Almireceros - authentic, cheap and plentiful tapas with Pedro Ximenez (sweet sherry) on tap for less than 2 euros per glass. We ate there every day as nowhere else quite measured up. Even the free tapas (which rarely exists outside Granada, despite reports to the contrary) are delicious. There are two Bodegas Castanedas (split after a family feud) - make sure you head for the one furthest away from Plaza Nueva (see photo). Delicious. The best place we ate in Andalucia.

Make sure you take your Spanish phrasebook with you as English in Granada can be a bit limiting.

If you're going elsewhere in Andalucia I can wholeheartedly recommend staying in Casa Del Maestro in Seville which is a fantastic hotel. I can also recommend that you stay away from Casa De Los Azulejos if you're visiting Cordoba!

  • Liked — Hard to choose just one thing - location and atmosphere....
  • Disliked — Twin beds
  • Tips/Secrets: — Bodegas Castaneda for excellent tapas, stout walking shoes for the cobbly hills

Good hotel, fabulous location. Ideal for a weekend break.

Some noise at night as it's directly on the street.

Breakfast is adequate to set you up for the day. Buffet style.

Very clean. Very helpful staff.

No tea & coffee facilities in the room despite being advertised.

No parking at the hotel as it's in the prohibited traffic area. However plenty of cheap parking in the town and taxi's aplenty to take you there.

Must see's in the area: Alhambra, Flemenco show, Cathedral, and if you're that way inclined, there is the Bull Ring (place del torres) where you can go and see a bull fight.

One thing to note, many people do not speak that much English, so if you have a smattering of Spanish it'll go a long way to getting you what you want.

Would definitely go back to Granada and this hotel.

  • Liked — It's location and the fact it's a small "boutique" hotel
  • Disliked — No tea & coffee facilities in the room & lack of mirrors.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Flat shoes for all the walking you'll do!
