The hotel has a gorgeous courtyard which many of the rooms open out on to. Ask for one of these! Our room was a good size and very clean, but faced the street. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a small laneway that isn't that nice but the hotel itself is great. It's about a ten minute walk to the cathedral.

I stayed here for 3 nights in Sept. of 2006. I think my husband is still mad at me since I am the one that booked this room. The first problem is trying the find the [--] place. We drove around for an hour and I had directions and a map. They do have parking. I have to admit it is a cute hotel and good value. We were on the top floor and the air conditioning was non functioning. Maybe that's why they put a fan in the room too. We thought that we were working it wrong and maybe had the heat on instead. I didn't think the no breakfast would be that big of a deal until I tried to walk several blocks without a morning cup of coffee. I never realized the convenience of having breakfast at a hotel before. While the hotel isn't bad, it was my least favorite hotel in my 2 weeks.

My partner and I are in our mid 30's and booked this following the reviews we found on this site. We stayed for 1 night in May 2007.
Our experience was an excellent one - we travel quite a lot and like our comfort!!

In short - the room was very clean and really comfortable. The free water and cold drinks in the fridge were very welcome as we arrived. There was an excellent range of complimentary toiletries, shoe shiner, combs etc. The rooms can be air conditioned or heated to your own requirements. The hotel has been newly refurbished and has a lot of history - Abadia means Abbey in Spanish.

The owner told us that the kettles in the rooms were specifically to cater to the British guests - what was not obvious is that they will provide you with free tea/ coffee etc on request - they don't leave it in the rooms as they worry that sugar would attract insects. We advised them to add a small card in the rooms informing guests of this.

The courtyard with fountain is delightful for a quiet sit down after the bustle of the city.

The reception staff were very friendly and gave us a lot of advice about buses, best areas for restaurants, tapas bars etc.

The owner/manager couldn't have been more helpful - he parked our car for us, carried our luggage, offered to store our luggage on our last day and offered us an opportunity to freshen up after our walk around the city, before we left. He also gave us directions to our next destination as we were unused to driving in the city.

We found that the hotel was very close to good cafes/ restaurants and enjoyed excellent value food on the menus del dia.

  • Disliked — roads bit confusing as we were directed the wrong way down a one way street

We had a very nice stay here in April. We booked two rooms since we are a family of 4 and there seem to be very few rooms in Spain that can accommodate 4 people. Given the very reasonable prices at the Abadia, this was not a problem.

Our rooms were very clean and nice. Our rooms were on the street side not on the courtyard, but because it is a small street, the noise was not bad (for a city.)

The staff was very helpful and made an effort to help us however they could... from parking my car to giving us directions to packing pottery to send home.

I agree with those that found the hotel hard to find. This is not the hotel's fault or a reason not to stay there, but rather a good reason to have a map and cell phone with you when trying to drive there.

We would stay here again.

When we arrived at this Hotel we were told that our room had been double booked for the first night. We were sent to another hotel, but what we were not told that we had been booked into a single room with a camp bed for the second bed. To top it all, they tried to charge us the full whack for the first night in spite of promises that they would pay for it.

When we arrived at the Abadia the next day, our room was adequate, but had no windows to speak of, only a skylight.

On leaving we had to argue to get a reduction on the first night, in spite of earlier promises. Also although we don’t speak Spanish the conversation from behind reception about “May” (the following month) and “Overbooking” (apparently international language) were quite apparent.

To sum up, an OK hotel if they honour their bookings! In our opinion doubtful. We would return to Granada but NOT to this hotel.

We booked through Trip Adviser and Hotel Bookers.
