Really does feel more like a home than a hotel. The owner and her husband are incredibly welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. As other reviewers have already noted, the manager Ana is one of the most charming and helpful people you could ever hope to meet.
The view from the roof terrace is fantastic. We booked the suite and picture windows run the full length of the room, looking out onto the terrace and the Alhambra. Spending the cocktail hour watching one of the world's most beautiful buildings change colour as the sun sets and the moon rises was priceless. We were given the keys to the terrace to ensure our privacy and if you book the suite make sure you ask for this.
I disagree with reviewers who said the continental breakfast was not worth it. Yes, service was occasionally a little disorganised, but always friendly and eager to please - ask and ye shall receive! Take your breakfast outside and eat in the garden if you want... We didn't take the breakfast every day because we like to ring the changes when on holiday, but also there was usually too much on offer. With cereals, fresh juice, yoghurt, breads, croissants, cakes, cheeses, cold meats and fresh fruit available we sometimes had to skip lunch. Make sure you try the black tomatoes if on offer.
It is in a truly outstanding location in foothills of Albayzin. One street back from the main bus and walking route up the hill it is amazingly quiet. Dozens of excellent restaurants and tapas bars are only 5 mins away if you stroll down to Plaza Nueva or make a short climb upwards along the river side. Please have a calicasas and free tapa for me at Bodegas Castaneda.
Recommendation - walk or take the bus up to Plaza San Miguel bajo and dine outside at one of the good value restaurants on the square (esp. el Aji). It really feels like a small village and it's brilliant watching the neighbourhood pass by.
Can't wait to return to this fine hotel.
