Granada is fabulous. The hotel Puerta de las Granadas is NOT. My brother and I agree that things could have been worse, but for about 100E a night, we expect alot better than what we got. We were well greeted when we arrived and the girl at the desk was convivial and helpful. She made us advance reservations at the Alhambra (which so far has been undoubtably the highlight of our trip), and her tapas recommendations were spot on. However, we found our room very damp, cold and small. After alot of fooling around with the heating system, and alot of patience we did manage to achieve a comfortable temperature. The beds were very uncomfortable. We felt springs in our backs all night long. After returning from dinner the first night here, we happened upon a power outage at the hotel. All the guests were just loitering around until the power came back on. The bathroom was tiny, tiny. I took a shower at night and as soon as i stepped out, the concierge was at our door asking us to not use the shower as it water was leaking into the room below us. The following day, after returning exhausted from lots of sight seeing, we happened upon a filthy room. Clearly someone had come in to fix the problem with the leaking shower and left dirt all over the floor, a filthy towel on the bathroom floor. Once again the lovely girl at the front desk did everything she could to help. In fact, she cleaned up our room herself, as it seemed that the housekeeping staff was gone for the day. This hotel is certainly not worth the price. Barely a step up from a hostel and much more expensive.
