Not sure where the one star reviewer stayed but surely not the same place we did. Couldn't fault anything here at all. All the staff were friendly, extremely helpful and welcoming. Bags got taken up to the room while we were getting a brilliant run through of the city from the charming receptionist, they offered to get Alhambra tickets if we had not booked. Without asking we got a free upgrade to the room with a view of the Alcazaba - you can see the room clearly from the top of the castle it is that close. Add to that clean modern rooms, superb central & yet quiet location (how do they do that?) reasonable room rates, a safe with a key and free fast internet. Decent buffet breakfast if you wanted it, not a problem if you didn't - they dont charge you if you don't eat! How could you beat it? Very much recommended: stay here when you are in Granada, you will be glad you did.

having read all the great reviews i thought that this would be the perfect little hotel for me and my boyfriend to stay in for our trip to granada. what a big mistake. in my 32 years on this planet i have never stayed in a worse hotel. when i first saw the room i nearly fainted. it was honestly like a prison cell, tiny, no natural light, dingy and with make shift fittings, no wardrobe and a make shift bathroom. i could not believe my eyes. in a daze i went out to reception and asked the receptionist politely to move me to a different room as the room i had been allocated was unacceptable. after much huffing and puffing we were moved to a different room, which i would say was marginally better. i really did not like the snooty attitiude of the receptionist. i can accept that the hotel was cheap but really and truly i felt like i was serving a prison sentence there and counted the hours till we could leave. on the plus side location was excellent and there was air conditioning. i would strongly advise against a stay in this "hotel".

This is a nice simple hotel, clean and is right on Plaza Nueva where you can take a bus up to Alhambra or you could walk up hill for 15 minutes. Many restaurants around, very tourist friendly.

Granada is a great place to visit beside seeing The Alhambra. It has a good mix of people and have a great small town feel to it. I love Granada the most out of all the Spain cities I've visited so far. Just have fun strolling down the small alleys, try some Middle eastern desserts(bahlava, etc) and mint tea. Look around and you usually see a cat napping away under the tree or patio. Of course there are still lots of dogs around, this is Spain and Spaniards love dogs.

One of the best thing I ate in Granada was the Churros with chocolate at Plaza Bib-Rambla. There is also a tourist office which told me to take the aerobus(cost 3 euro) to airport. The bus stop is about 10 minutes walk from hotel. There are lots of tapas places and I highly recommend Minotaur which is 2 blocks from hotel.

For Alhambra, you can buy tickets without standing in line at the Autoticket machine. It cost 1 euro more but its well worth it. It only takes ATM or credit card with PIN(debit) only.

The Puertas de las Granadas is a small hotel and the rooms are not huge but it more than makes up for this! It has a great location right in the centre of the City, on the route to the Alhambra. The rooms are modern with good sound-proofing on the doors, air-conditioning, TV they offer free internet access, have a small balcony overlooking the city and a cute little courtyard garden where you are able to take drinks or food during the day (which you can bring in from outside the hotel) if you are seeking a quiet spot to get away from the buzz of the City. They offer good information and on booking on a hotel booking website, the hotel itself had emailed within an hour to offer me their services booking tickets for the Alhambra, giving me directions from the bus station etc. I would recommend this hotel!

Some of the other reviews say that some rooms were noisy because of a bar across the street but it would appear that the bar has closed and the street is very quiet in the evenings.

  • Liked — Location and great little courtyard.
  • Disliked — The beds on wheels!

From the moment we walked in the door, we had a great feeling about this place. It is in a great position to walk to many of the attractions and restaurants. The check in service was exceptional. We were pleasantly reminded that there are indeed people working in the service/hospitality industry who genuinly care about their clients and are keen to not only assist their clients, but to excite them about their stay.
The hotel seems to have been built or renovated recenlty. The modern rooms are cute and clean. We were fortunate to have a room with a small, enclosed balcony looing down on the street below. Although the hotel is small, they have done a great job to open up an upper level terrace, as well as provide a computer area with internet access. This enabled you to spend time in the hotel without being stuck in your room.
About 50 metres down the street was the Plaza Nueva, where we were able to catch the small mini-buses to take us to a variety of locations without the need to take taxis. Off the Plaza Nueva, Calle Elvira is a great little street to wander at night time with a variety of quaint restaurants bars and shops.
On the whole I truly thought that this hotel was the best value for money hotel we stayed in throughout our 6 weeks in Europe. A great find.

  • Liked — Friendly, clean and good location
