My husband & I stayed here in early January 2006 during our self-planned tour of Andalucia. Grenada was our last stop (we started in Seville, then went to Jerez, then onto Ronda, & finished here).
This hotel was the most disappointing of our entire trip. It was not well-priced for what we got (particularly compared to the other hotels we had just stayed at in other places in southern Spain).
Our room was VERY compact & was a street facing room, so we had a view of the walkway/entrance area outside. And we had a first row seat for the builders working at the property across the alley. Thankfully since it was wintertime we didn't have the windows open much.
The heater on the wall was a godsend, without it we would have been popsicles. The ensuite was fine, but the shower was very compact. I fit fine, but my husband had to engineer a little bit to clean everything & everywhere. As a positive, the water pressure was fantastic!
Our bed was not particularly comfortable, but not overly uncomfortable either, just plain average & non-descript.
The hotel staff were incredibly friendly & helpful. They tried their best (I think) to make up for the mediocrity of the hotel rooms.
The afternoon tea offer was much appreciated in the breakfast room. And the lounge downstairs was also lovely.
The location of the hotel was fantastic. One is a stone's throw away from the bus stops to get to other spots around Grenada (not just the Alhambra). Also we had a lovely evening stroll down from the Alhambra to the hotel along the ravine. It is also fantastic for strolling down to the main shopping areas of Grenada & various restaurants 5-10 minutes away. Definitely avoid the touristy places in the main square fairly close to the hotel (where the buses to the Alhambra depart). Strolling just a few narrow alleys away from the square we had fab tapas with great wine (still a bit pricier than it should have been, but the proximity to the hotel after a long day's walking all over, it was worth it).
Given the friendly staff & the ground floor common rooms, I think that if this hotel spent some money on upgrading the rooms/bathrooms a bit, it could be a TRUE boutique hotel. Right now it's on the lower end of that spectrum because the rooms disappoint.
