This is NOT a 4 star hotel, despite some of the trappings of one. TripAdvisor lists it as a three star, but the hotel website, and signs outside the hotel lists it as a 4 star.
I was extremely disappointed with this hotel, considering the reviews here (other than this hotel, I've never been disappointed with a hotel recommended on this site), and considering what I paid.
First off, the hotel is IMPOSSIBLE to find - and I had a satellite navigation system. There probably is a car driving around Granada without a side mirror - I may have clipped one or two trying to navigate the tiny streets trying to find this hotel. If you have a car, there simply has to be better places to stay. The parking garage under the hotel is impossible to get around in and the hill getting from the garage to the street makes the hill walking from the town to La Alahambra seem tiny. With a big car, and a diesel engine, be prepared to stall more than a few times going up that mountain.
I booked this hotel in part due to the fact that it is just off the square where they celebrate New Year's Eve in Granada. I wasn't the only one - the hotel was completely booked on New Year's eve - which would be fine, but they only had ONE PERSON working the desk in the entire hotel. The poor guy looked like he wanted to crawl under the desk and cry, considering the line of people wanting to check in, get dinner reservations, etc. A four star hotel would not have such terrible service. On the busiest night of the year, one would expect at least one more person working the desk.
Next, I called ahead to request a baby crib to be put into my room. I was told at check in that not only couldn't they accommodate my request, they didn't have anything bigger than a full size bed. It was a rough night indeed with three people in a little bed.
Also, the rooms were very small. Not as small as some European hotels that I've stayed at, but definitely smaller than the other hotels that we stayed at in Spain. Even so, they were nicely decorated, with nice marble floors and hardwood cabinets.
The second night was better. They moved us into a bigger room that had a baby crib in it, and it was a much better night's sleep, after the previous night that essentially was spent in an overpriced closet. Unfortunately, we got to La Alahambra a bit too late, and the tickets for the morning were sold out. We already checked out of the hotel, but as it was still before 10 AM (check out time is at noon), and it was raining heavily, we thought that they would let us into the room for an hour or so to use the toilet and change the baby. Think Again! The didn't let us back in our room, (even though we had paid until noon), and we had to change the baby in the lobby. What a nightmare.
One of the good things abut the hotel is the location is central - however, Granada has a pretty compact downtown, there are plenty of hotels in the central area that we walked by. I'm sure that one of these hotels could have provided a more quality experience.
Overall, the experience at this hotel was pretty bad, horrible if you consider that they claim to be a 4 star hotel - and for what we paid during a holiday. On their website they claim, "We pride ourselves on our level of service, and the facilities available to our guests." Unfortunately, we found the exact opposite.
