5/5 - so I will try and not repeat what others have said but add a few hints and tips
we booked on laterooms.com good rates
Upgrade your room to include breakfast. Fantastic. Tortilla, cooked full English, fruit..it really sets you up for the day.
Email the hotel in advance and ask for a room on a higher floor…advised in other reviews. Being road side is not ideal. We had a lovely quiet room.
There are no tea/coffee facilites in the room and there are no facilities apart from breakfast service so take a travel kettle.
The best location ever - right in the old town. A really good bar/place for lunch is 10 metres from the hotel. Go out of the hotel door and turn left. The bar has 3-4 large dark wood doors, outside tables and blue chairs..fabulous. Try the tapas and beer..very reasonable. Locals were near to fighting to get a table so get there pre 2pm!!
Carry on down this narrow cobbled street to the Plaza del Carmen. Turn right, cross the road, a Miss Rossi shop on your left ( same as Miss Selfridge in the UK) and down the cobbled street into the main square. The best churros and chocolate are served in the café on the left hand corner. For those who have not tried this…long light doghnut strips and thick chocolate served in a cup. Dipping doghnuts! Fantastic but very rich so be sure to under order, 1 portion of churros was more than enough for 2 people. A lovely Spanish 'afternoon tea' or elevenses.
In this same square - 1 duff restaurant and lots of good other ones.
We loved the alhambra pizzeria/restaurant which is on the left hand side next to the Orange phone shop. Great food and friendly staff.
The restaurant to avoid in the square is at the back of the square on the left hand corner. We saw so many people complain and our food was luke warm. Apparently only 1 chef is on duty for the first part of the evening. Sorry cannot remember the name but if you are stood at the fountain with the plaza del carmen behind you, the restaurant is in front of you to the left corner.
The whole area around here is very cobbled so comfy shoes a must.
We did the flamenco show, advised by the hotel to 'the cave', great - but the walk around the town they take you on is very hilly, cobbled…so flat shoes a must. 25 euros each and a good show.
Water - expensive in the hotel but we found a lovely place to get supplies, supermarkets are hard to find in this part of the town. Go through the square just described, to the left hand corner past the Orange phone shop. Enter another mini road and on the left hand side is a sandwich shop.icecream/drinks mini shop… Water 1 litre for 1.5 euros. Far cheaper than the hotel
Plaza del carmen has a cashpoint..handy
If you are going to the Alhambra you cannot walk from here..forget it. Take a taxi 5 euros or get the sightseeing bus ticket for 24 or 48 hours and hop on and off. The sightseeing bus goes from the cathedral, so 3 mins walk from the hotel
Alhambra - get the audio guide - superb. 3 euros
