We recently completed a three week trip to Spain, staying in five different cities. By far, our favorite hotel was Room Mate Migueletes. Tucked just off a plaza at the base of the Alhambra, we found this property incredibly charming and romantic. It's a beauty. The inner courtyard was peaceful and serene. The living room, just off the courtyard, had complimentary internet and there was complimentary wine tasting in the evenings,
Having been completely gutted in 2002 and rebuilt from the insides out, the rooms are thoughtfully designed and tastefully furnished. They have great bathroom amenities that are hip and fun, while still being upscale. It may not have the number of stars of larger properties because it lacks 24 hour room service, or having a full service restaurant, gymnasium, etc....but the comfort and size of the rooms, the helpfulness and knowledge of the staff and the charm and quality of the property, make this a great find.
We have told several seasoned travelers we know about Room-Mate Migueletes. Given the quality of this property, we were sorry we had not booked their other properties in cities we stayed.
In Barcelona and Madrid we splurged for well known 5 star properties and paid a fortune in the process. Neither hotel was as completely satisfying as Room-Mate Migueletes.
An expanded continental breakfast was included in our stay, which we thought also added greatly to the value of this property.
The only disadvantage we thought of, conerned senior travelers. Because the property is tucked away behind a plaza, taxis cannot drop you right at the front door with luggage. If you cannot manage your own bags, you will need to have the driver help with the bags to the hotel or ask the hotel if they can provide luggage assistance. You won't have to walk more than 25 meters (75 feet or so), but if you had problems with luggage and cobblestones, that would be one small consideration.
We thought the location of the property was excellent. It is a short, safe five minute walk from the cathedral and surrounding shops and restaurants.
The hotel also provides an excellent list of recommended restaurants and is quick to make reservations for any you would like to visit. Their recommendations were great, and the restaurants treated us very well. Because of the location at the base of the Alhambra there are a number of restaurants with gorgeous views up the hill to the Alhambra, which is lit at night.
And yes, our room also had a view of the Alhambra. While you won't necessarily be gazing all the time out the window, it is worth asking in advance if they have a room with a view!
Enjoy this property. It's a gem.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Migueletes, and booked on the strength of previous reviews, we were not disappointed. We stayed in Room 8, a superior room. It was large but with windows only looking out onto the courtyard. My parents were in Room 16, a standard room. It was small and again only had courtyard views. But the overall feel of the hotel was peaceful and attractive. Everywhere was clean and staff were very pleasant and always had a smile.I don't really want to repeat what has already been said in previous reviews, since they have all been pretty accurate and helped a great deal in dispeling any concerns.
Just a few points which may help:
- a great tapas bar just down the road from the hotel. Past Plaza Nuevo on the right, take the 1st right up Placeta Silleria and follow the lane up until it meets the next road and just on the right is Bodegas Casteneda. After 9 always heaving with locals (always a good sign!), so try and get there earlier, we went about 7.30 and even managed to get a table! The menu was a little daunting, but let the waiter guide you, he is pretty understanding with tourists!! I think probably more so if you go earlier when he has a little more time!
-pick-pocketing!! My father had his wallet stolen at the bus stop at the cathedral. He and my mother were distracted by a young boy playing directly in front of them, while they think, two men who had been stood behind did the deed. They now think the boy was the mens' accomplice.
Later, we spoke to a lady who also had her purse stolen from the cathedral bus stop, by two men who asked her for directions.
- Alhambra. We booked our tickets in advance over the internet, using the site recommended by another TripAdvisor. pretty east to do following their step-by-step guide. One tip which I don't think has been mentioned, if you do pre-book oner the net using a credit card, make sure you take that particular card with you as you use it to collect your tickets. As you walk down to the entrance, turn right, and at the far end there is an area with what look like cash machines. These dispense the tickets when you put in your credit card, all pretty straight forward and quick!
Another thing- start making your way to the palace well before your alloted entry time, give yourself at least 20 mins.

Overall, enjoyed, but not the best city break we've been on.

  • Liked — authentic, intimate feel to hotel
  • Disliked — no tea/coffe facilities in room, and no other way to obtain any within hotel.

There is much to love about Granada, and staying at the Casa de los Migueletes made it even more enjoyable! To a person, the staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful - both before our arrival and after! They were very prompt about communicating with us and answering questions before our visit, including making recommendations and reservations. The location is ideal, the setting and ambience outstanding. The room was charming and very clean, with the only noise (infrequent) coming from inconsiderate guests rather than the hotel itself.

True, staying at this hotel requires a short walk from the Plaza Nueva. However, it is indeed a very short and easy walk, even with luggage. In fact, there is a senior citizens' day care center near the hotel with many of the seniors being infirm and handicapped - if they can negotiate the area, tourists should be able to do so! And being on a quiet pedestrian walkway is better than dealing with street noises at other hotels I've stayed at in Granada. But given the nature and charm of Granada, if you're not able to handle this easy walk you should probably skip Granada entirely.

We stayed at two RoomMate hotels during this vacation and looked in at another. We are very impressed with the chain in general and the Migueletes in particular.

If I could make a suggestion for improvement, it would be only to improve the quality of the coffee and the tortilla espanola served at the breakfast, which was otherwise very good. Cafe con leche and tortilla espanola are two of my favorite things in Spain, and unfortunately neither were very good. But that is a minor detail - this is a great place to stay!

  • Liked — Location, cleanliness, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, historic ambience
  • Disliked — The coffee - a very minor nit to picik!

The Migueletes is a charming hotel, in a great location for visiting the Alhambra and the Moorish quarter of Granada. The property is beautifully remodeled. Our room was spacious, the bathroom was well appointed, and we even had a view of the Alhambra (though the hotel is tucked into the narrow winding streets of Granada, and I suspect only certain rooms have views; indeed, our other window looked directly into a building). The staff was very helpful with all of our needs, and the breakfast and evening wine receptions were very nice. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Migueletes.

We just stayed at the Room Mate Migueletes in Granada and wow, what a place. 1stly, it shd be noted that we booked the mosttexpensive room in the place (wanted to splurge a bit) and for our €190 got just about the best room we've ever seen.

The suite itself was vast (ante chamber, bedroom, dressing room and bathroom - about 200 sq m in total) but more importantly beautifully and simply appointed in the very best, traditional, Andalusian style. After several hot and dusty days in other parts of the region, this was just spot on.

The rest of the hotel was also lovely, with a good courtyard, nice drawing room (with free internet) and so on. The front desk was tremendously helpful and friendly - their guidance in restaurants and making reservations was especially valued.

Downsides? Well not many but some.
Breakfast is a bit poor considering how much you pay. Cereal, fruit, toast is laid out, but in the style of a €60 / night place. Coffee sucked.
No conditioner included in the toiletries - minor, but again, to be expected for the price.
Also, we heard that some of the smaller rooms may not be so great, but c dn't say...

All in all, highly recommended. Incredible place in many important respects, and only minor flaws.

Finally, on the flight home, we saw that the hotel and our room was featured in the current issue of Architectural Digest!!
