We would reccomend this hotel very highly indeed. It's very close to the really interesting parts of the city (Albaicin, Alhambra, Cathedral, main shopping streets), a short walk from the large underground parking lot on Gran Via de Colon.

We only staying for one night but would very happily have stayed longer - the (superior double) room was a good size and used good quality white bed linen, the bathroom was large and batter than I would have anticipated for such an old building and overall our accomodation had plenty of character.

The communal parts of the hotel (the central curtyard, breakfast room and living room) were fantastic - tastefully done and welcoming. The staff were helpful, friendly, unobtrusive and had lots of really good suggestions for places to eat and drink.

Excellent value for money too!

  • Liked — welcoming atmosphere and very attractive building
  • Disliked — nothing!

A great place to stay with fantastic service and a great location.

We stayed in two rooms during our stay, both were great, but the first faced some construction nearby.

Once again, EAR PLUGS are your friend for any visit to Spain.

We were contacted personally by hotel (after booking on the hotel website) to enquire whether we wanted to book a visit to Alhambra. We did so and it all worked very well.

The hotel is just within the old part of the town. We took a taxi from the railway station (had to wait around 20 minutes for one to arrive) which dropped us a short walk from the hotel. We booked (by request) a room with a small balcony and view of the Alhambra. (We sat on the balcony and looked up at the Alhambra after spending most of the day there.) The room was smallish but reasonably comfortable with wooden floors. As with the rest of the hotel, it was charmingly decorated in Andalusian style. We enjoyed the complimentary sherry in
the bodega and the "underground" breakfasts. Staff were friendly and very helpful. There was a comfortable sitting room although it and the stairways (open to the interior courtyard with a retractable roof/shade) were rather too cool in the November evenings. Room walls
were too thin - someone next door was pacing the room and it was very
noisy. It was difficult to warm the bathroom but the combined heater/
air con in bedroom was efficient.

Location excellent for sights, walks in old town, restaurants and modern shops.

Hotel - full marks for atmosphere, charm and service; average for comfort and facilities.

  • Liked — Hotel design & charm
  • Disliked — A bit cold in November; relatively basic for the price

Recently taken into the Room Mate group, this hotel is the result of a very careful restoration of a typical Granadian house a few years ago. The hotel is on a pedestrian only street on the edge of the Albaicin but is easy to reach nonetheless.

We had an executive room (23) which had a view of the Alhambra Palace. Some of the rooms and the Alhambra suite have full views which are stunning at night. The room was as described with comfortable but basic furnishings in keeping with the style of the premises. The bathroom with bath/shower was well equipped with modern fittings.

Breakfast was served from 7-30am to noon weekdays and from 8-00 to noon weekends. It was buffet style with just cornflakes and muesli as cereals, fruit and yoghurt, boiled eggs, a selection of cheeses, meats and salad and a good selection of bread and rolls. There was plenty of choice of teas and coffee with water and orange juice.

In the bodega (wine cellar) a complimentary glass was offered to guests from 8-00pm to 9-00pm and wine could be bought there.

As in other Room Mate hotels, their signature was an apple left by the bedside each day and they left a card in the room late each afternoon giving the weather prediction for the next day.

The hotel staff are very helpful and all the reception staff have good English. There is a comfortable lounge with a computer available for guests' use.

The hotel is located about 100 m from the northern end of the Plaza Nueva via a narow street Pisas opposite the Santa Ana church. Although you can get closer, taxis will drop you at the centre of the Plaza so as to avoid the one way restricted traffic system that leads into the Albaicin.

The airport bus stops about 250m from the hotel in Gran Via and costs 3 euro per person. The train station and bus station are closer to the edge of town.

The Plaza Nueva is the key access point for buses to the Alhambra, the Albaicin and Sacromonte - very convenient - and the tourist office is just to the side of the Santa Ana church. The square has several eating establishments, many souvenir shops and a small general store.

The Royal Chapel and the Cathedral are just by the Gran Via bus stop so the key attractions are all in easy reach.

Excellent location and comfortable relaxed place to stay.

  • Liked — The traditional refurbishment
  • Disliked — Apart from the side window the main window of room 23 overlooks a derilect building partly restored

We stayed here for a few days just after Easter. It is a charming little place, quiet and peaceful and yet only a minute's walk from the Plaza Nueva (at the end of the Plaza, opposite the Tourist Office, look for the yellow signs for the Casa de los Migueletes, not Room Mate Migueletes) It's easy from here to get around on foot, or to catch the little buses taking you to the main sights.
The hotel staff are friendly and really know their stuff, giving tips, recommendations and booking things for you. (They suggested we got a City Pass to get entrance to the Alhambra, easy to buy from the Royal Chapel, without getting up at the crack of dawn to join the ticket queue at the Alhambra itself.)
In the hotel there is a quiet lounge where you can access the internet (free) or read the guide books. It's also interesting to look at the folder of photographs taken during the renovation/restoration of the hotel - quite a project!
The free sherry at 8 pm in the bodega is a great way to meet other guests and get more tips and recommendations for visits, restaurants, etc.
The breakfast is fine, small but adequate choice - and as it's served from 7.30 until 12.30, you don't need to worry about having a lie-in.
Our room opened up on to the courtyard and was a bit on the small side, but it was spotless and had everything you could reasonably need. A nice touch was the fruit left by the bed each day.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, for service, location and atmosphere!

  • Liked — The traditional restoration and layout of the hotel
  • Disliked — The smoking area in the courtyard being right under my bedroom window - unpleasant when the windows were open
