Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Room Mate Migueletes from 17 to 21 January. The hotel is perfectly located a few meters aways from Plaza Nueva. The Room Mate Migueletes is an excellent solution: recovering an old building the hotel now has very cosy and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is excellent (real orange juice from real oranges is a treat) and the staff are very friendly. All rooms have ADSL connection (so you can keep working while away on holiday...) and the staff of the hotel is friendly and efficient. i needed an adapter from Italian to Spanish plugs and here it was, they had it ready.
Staying at the Room Mate Migueletes was like staying in an old andalucian palace.
Plenty of choice of restaurants and bars in the nearby area ( We had dinner a few times at Bodega Castaneda, a nice and friendly bar with good food) but the hotel has got many suggestions.
Whilst in Granada don't miss to explore the Albaicin (good food near Mirador San Nicola at Bar Kiki). Just a few meters of the hotel, you can catch the micro bus to Alhambra (1 euro) (otherwise you can also walk, but it's quite uphill).
Don't miss also the Convent of St. Jeronimo, the Capilla Real and the Cartuja.

This is a boutique hotel that goes out of its way to take care of its customers.

The redone space is visually exciting and very guest friendly. Our Executive Room was great -- the bath was especially lovely with an oval coffered ceiling. We were first shown a room without an outside window and I requested seeing another room. Was not a problem for them in the least.

We were given a pamphlet with a map and some recommended eating locations. All were wonderful! We went to a very late lunch and some excellent tapa locations from the list. Having them on a map was a great help. Also, at the front desk you could talk through where each of the places were. We found the front desk to be very helpful with directions, ideas and even suggestions of where to find some particular items in stores. Having the Herald Tribune every day was a real plus as was the free availability of the internet.

The sherry hour is a very nice idea. It enables you to have a way to trade comments on Granada sights and food with other guests. Plus it is great for a couple to get to interact with other folks when they are traveling.

The breakfast is in a beautiful room in the lowest level. There is a very full offering of meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, cereals and drinks to choose from. I was amazed to read a negative comment about the breakfast choices! Not so!

We did not have directions to finding the hotel but did have a very good map. It would help if Expedia sent that along to folks who make a reservation at this hotel -- or at least suggest they check the hotel website out. Nonetheless, we did find the place without too much ado. It certainly would help if the streets in Spain (and much of Europe) used street signs. It also would help if maps noted what are pedestrian areas in a consistant manner. That said, we did get there without too much effort.

The location is excellent. While the fact that it is in an area restricted to cars can be seen as a negative, it really is a great positive. It means that visitors are in a very walkable area and that there is a minimum of traffic. It also means the area tends to be fairly quiet.

We stayed here for the last 3 nights of our honeymoon, spent visiting 4 cities in Andalucia. This was our least favourite of the hotels we stayed in and the most expensive (even the mini-bar was the dearest, more than the 4 stars we stayed in).

While the location is great, the restoration work is beautiful and the common areas are lovely (including a bodega with free sherry in the evening, a living room with free internet access and a patio with a table and benches) the bedrooms just don't match the rate we paid (150 euro a night plus tax for an executive room).

We included a comment in our booking requesting a nice room as we were on honeymoon and we got room 7, a tiny double with a cramped bathroom. There were some items needing repair in the room, in particular the bathroom door wouldn't remain closed unless you lifted the door while closing it, it took a good half hour to work that out. The shaving mirror also had a knack to it, it mainly hung facing the ground till you twiddled it round for a few minutes, there were also bulbs gone in the wall lamps. No blackout curtains in the window so the room was never properly dark at night. But worst of all the mattress was worn out so we kept rolling into the middle of it. It felt like a hostel and made me look forward to going home.

After the 2nd bad night's sleep we switched to room 9, a decent size but with twin beds (not what you'd ideally look for on honeymoon!), the guy on reception said that all the mattresses in the hotel were the same, so there was no point in going for another double. Still had a couple of lamps needing bulbs but at least it had blackout lining in the curtain this time and the doors and mirror were working properly. I should also mention that they don't really do the free toiletries that you'd expect to find, no shower caps or anything like that, just shampoo and shower gel and a bar of soap. Not a big deal, just a bit no frills at the price, I could have done with a shower cap and shoe shine.

We were given the hotels leaflet of bar and restaurant recommendations on check-in, tried 4 of them and they were great, quite a few not in guide books and a bit off the beaten path.

The breakfast was included in our rate, but not worth paying for otherwise, jugs of coffee, small selection of quality meats, no croissants or pastries and very pulpy OJ, we're not just talking 'bits', there was eating and drinking in it as we'd say in Ireland!

Overall, I wouldn't stay there again, bedroom-wise it felt like a hostel and a very expensive one at that.

The hotel is in a great location, although you have to walk a bit with the luggage.
It is an old house with interior patios, in the old part of town.
It is beautifully mantained, beds are very comfortable, beautiful handcrafted furniture and handmade area rugs. The room had a romantic country feeling.
The staff was very helpful and pleasant, breakfast was included and was very good.
We stayed for 2 nights and it made our stay in Granada fantastic!

We stayed 2 nights in Room 8 (a deluxe room) costing about $250 per night. The room was charming with wood beams and overlooked a lovely courtyard. The nice thing about this room is that there is no walkway outside the bedroom windows, thus allowing better privacy than the rooms across the way. The room is on the top floor and there is no elevator. However, the staff was readily available to help with our luggage. So the location was not a problem.
Like everyone else, we got lost following the directions to the Plaza Puerta Real parking lot. Potential guests should not stress out over this. The plaza is a major intersection, and if you have any sense of direction, you will find it. The problem for much of Spain is that the major urban roadways have no signage, presumably because all the residents know those streets. So when you are on a main road, it will be difficult to confirm your location on a map. But that is not a problem specific to this hotel but to any that is located in a historic area in Spain.
Once we arrived at the designated parking lot, there were no further glitches. It was easy to park, take the elevator with our luggage up to the ground level, where there is a taxi stand just a few feet away. The ride to Plaza Ana cost a little over 4 euros. From there one must walk up a small side street, then turn right to the hotel. This short distance takes one away from the lively activity of a large plaza peopled with some hippies to relative peace and quiet, yet makes it very easy to access the red tourist bus to visit the Alhambra (which must be the reason you are there). Now I did not compare the costs of various garages, but the special discount rate for parking at the designated garage is 12 euros per night. The most I spent to park anywhere else in Spain was 15 euros. So I wonder how much I saved by following the hotel's advice. It just might be simpler to find any garage you come upon and find a taxi to do the rest. Just how many extra euros could this cost? However, please note that their garage is under a taxi stand, which solves part of the problem.
We tried to have dinner at Cunini, the best seafood restaurant in town, but were told it was totally booked that evening. This was the only time we ran into such a problem in the 16 nights of our stay. The hotel staff recommended we try paella at the Sevilla, and we did but found it disappointing. Very much so.
The included breakfast buffet was very good, and it was an extra treat to have free use of a computer and the internet is the common area off the courtyard.
