We spent one night at this hotel in July and were actually rather disappointed. It was the most expensive hotel we stayed in for our entire trip in Spain and it did not feel like a good value compared to the other places we stayed (even some of the hostels!). We stayed in Room 6 for only 1 night, which didn’t include breakfast at 110 EU. The location of the hotel is good, easy to reach the Alhambra, Cathedral and Albacin on foot (although I’d recommend the Alhambra bus in the Plaza Nuevo, a great recommendation from the hotel). One note is that the hotel is up a couple of little alleys off of a large central square, and our cab driver absolutely refused to drive up closer to the hotel than the church on the plaza. This resulted in us rolling our suitcase up a couple of blocks – not a problem for us but if you don’t have wheels on your luggage you might struggle a bit. The hotel itself is a beautiful property, very authentic and calming with a pretty courtyard and immaculate lounge and courtyard. The staff was very nice and gave us good recommendations for places to eat (and the aforementioned bus to the Alhambra, which was a lifesaver in the heat!). Our room was quite large and featured a real double bed. The bathroom was also spacious and everything was very clean. It had a good-sized tub with a European-style shower (causing my boyfriend to flood the bathroom every time he took a shower, he’s never gotten the hang of those). The towels were also very large and nice. The room was very quiet and we liked the fact it faced out on the courtyard. The décor was classical Spanish, with red tile floors and dark wood furnishings, ceilings, and closets. All of the hotel rooms are non-smoking, which in Spain is pretty rare and I really appreciated.
As to the disappointment: the bed was not very comfortable and the air conditioning barely worked; it just blew barely cool air at us and didn’t really cool the room down as much as we would have liked (it was very hot in Granada, close to 100 degrees F). The room itself was also really dark – even with all the lights turned on it was hard to get enough light to read by, even during the day and with the windows open.
All in all, based on the reviews on this site, their website photos, and price, I was expecting a place that would be very special and unique, and I just don’t think this hotel measured up. There was nothing horribly wrong, but it was comparable to many of the other places we stayed but over double the prices of hotels in other cities. If it had been a bit less expensive I could have overlooked the flaws, but at the rate we were charged I expected a lot more than I feel we received. I would look for a different hotel next time in Granada.
