This is a great hotel. Tucked away in a quiet street off of the Plaza Nueva it’s a little haven of peace with full access to the city’s activities. The room was simple, the beds aren't great, but the hotel has a comfortable living room with a public computer, and a lovely courtyard typical of the regional architecture. Perhaps the hotel’s best asset, however, is the receptionist (I believe her name is Paola). She was friendly and helpful, and did all she could to help weary travelers have as comfortable a stay as possible (made calls for us, clearly explained directions, etc.).

Note – if you drive and park in the recommended garage, prepare yourself for one of the worst parking garage experiences of your life. The spaces are really tight – we were not the only ones who tried to fit into several different spaces. Ultimately, we parked, and the cab ride to the hotel was short. Overnight parking in the garage, with the hotel discount (pay at the hotel and they give you a voucher), costs about 15 euros.

This is a beautiful hotel, tucked away behind Plaza Nueva and only 20 minutes from the Alhambra. A converted 17th century garrison, it has been refurbished with style and simplicity. The hotel was lovely and cool during the heat of August and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were spotless and came with a mini-bar and the breakfast was very good. The only down point would be that the room was quite dark, but then this helped to keep it cool, so I suppose you can't have everything. Most rooms looked into the courtyard, so you couldn't open your curtains otherwise people walking past could see in. I would recommend getting a room with an outward view. Even so, I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

One night stay in high season: very good location, atmospheric open courtyard (might get cold out of season), very friendly and helpful staff. We got two good sized rooms and generous buffet breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Quiet alleyway behind Plaza Nueva, no traffic noise but don't expect views: a peaceful stay before the heat and crowds of the Alhambra.

My husband, 3 year old daughter and I booked one night at this hotel, as we were only passing through Granada and wanted a hotel that was close to all of the things that we wanted to see.

Driving into the hotel is impossible, as others have stated, no cars other than taxis and busses are allowed in the old part of Granada. We had GPS and the directions that the hotel provided and it still took us at least an hour to find the recommended parking garage. So....make sure you look at a map and find the garage and clarify any questions before you go....or....as others have stated, park farther out of the city and take a cab in. But, once we found the garage and caught a taxi, it was a very short, easy ride into the Plaza and a very short, easy walk to the hotel.

The hotel is located right off of the Plaza Sta. Ana on a lovely cobbled alley. From the outside, the hotel looks beautiful....the traditional heavy, ornate doors. Check in was easy and friendly. We were first shown to a room on the first floor. It was large, but had NO windows at all. So, we asked for something different. We were then put on the 3rd floor in a *very* small room that overlooked the inner courtyard. As others have stated, it gets very noisy between high heels clacking on the stone hallways and people shutting doors and talking in the corridors. Because there is no AC and the room was *very* stuffy, even in mid November, we had to open the window that opened to the courtyard, therefore letting in all noise. And...letting out all noise, for that matter. So, between the stuffiness and the noise, we didn't sleep all that well. The TV is also not good, but we didn't mind so much as we really just used the hotel to sleep ( or *attempt* to do so). The bathroom was large and nice and the bed was comfortable.

The central courtyard is really beautiful with tables, chairs, plants and a nice fountain. The lounge with internet access and lots of different guidbooks is also very nice and quiet during the day. Breakfast was included with our rate and was quite good and there was plenty of selection.

Reception also let us leave our bags the day of our checkout, as we had tickets to Alhambra and wanted to see the city before we headed out. They were very courteous.

Catching the bus to the Alhambra and to the Albacin is very easy and a very short walk across the plaza and a street. There are busses every 15 minutes or so, and it is quite easy to find your way around from the hotel.

All in all, this hotel was okay. I think it was quite pricey for what you get. The location is fabulous, but the rooms are quite mediocre. So, it is a bit of a tradeoff. I think when we return to Granada, we'll probably try staying somewhere different.

  • Liked — Fabulous location and the building has lots of character.
  • Disliked — Stuffy, noisy rooms.
