This hotel is gorgeous. After falling in love with the Alhambra and the Alcazar, staying at this place made me feel like I had my own mini palace. The door to the main entrance is just super cool, and the key to your room is neat too. It is full of ambiance, cool calm, and makes you feel so relaxed when you enter.
The size of our room was comparable to other hotels we've stayed in Europe (i.e. too small for American taste). Architecturally, the room was very interesting, with a high, beamed ceiling, wide, heavy wooden windows, and tiled floor. The tiling in the bath was pretty, and had all the modern conveniences. It is, overall, a very romantic setting, if your idea of romance involves old wooden things, historical ambiance, and persian carpets.
Now for the criticisms. It is so expensive for what you get. Granted it is amazing, but gosh, 200+us a night can quickly render the travel budget. The bed was terrible. We were used to two twins pushed together by this point, but they were so hard - after walking and sightseeing all day, this was not what I needed. There was occasional-to-frequent unpleasant odor rising up from the shower drain. At night, there were freqent knocking sounds coming from the plumbing.
If the price were a bit lower, the issues with this place could easily be outweighed by its pure indulgent sensuality. There needs to be more balance in this respect that keeps this hotel from being highly recommended. If you don't care about how you spend your money, want something that is undoubtedly very special, and can overlook "the small stuff," then you won't be disappointed.
