We (my husband, 34, and I, 33) spent 2 night at the Plaza Nueva (paid 40 euors/night). It's a small hotel, right in the middle of the main plaza. From our balcony, we had the best view of Al-Hambra (see pictures). The room was beatifully decorated, had a special feel to it. We didn't use of any of the other hotel services, so I can't say much about them. However, I know that you can have a breakfast buffet for 12euros/day, which we thought was overpriced: You can get a nice breakfast in any of the cafes around the plaza for half that price. As guests, we had free internet access at the lobby, however, the connection was down most of the time, and we realised that it is common problem throughtout Spain.
Al-Hambra is a a good 15-20mn walk (up a steep hill); as you exit the hotel to the Plaza Nueva, take the samll street in front of you and keep walking..it's that easy. The city bus will take you up the hill for 1euro. But, unless you're very tired or sick etc, you shouldn't miss the walk to the Al-Hambra (very nice gardens, fresh air). Go early in the morning, between 6 and 9. You will love it.
We will definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel to all our friends and family.

The room was nicely decorated. Had a mini fridge, hairdryer, TV and a safe. Luckily we were on the side street so the room was quiet. Very centrally located. Quick walk to the Albayzin. Great local to transportation. Front desk was helpful. Free internet. It rained very hard one day and it backed up into the drain which is in the lobby - yuck! Good for the price.

The hotel is very central and of walking distance to the majority of the tourist attratcions except for the Alhambra of course. It exudes a quaint feeling but we experienced many problems. It was extremely hot and sfuffy in our room but we didn't have the option to use the air conditioner because it was considered winter (yes, it was cold outside, but volcanic in our room). Also, it was clear that the floor was not swept. There was dust everywhere specially in the corners and table tops. In one corner there was a sunflower seed that was never swept away. I guess it was a complimentary treat? As far as I know, hotels normally provide shampoo in small bottles. Plaza Nueva provided one of those wall dispensors with a toxic yellow/green colored goo in it, which I assumed it was shampoo since they did provide bars of soap. The only good thing about the hotel is that it had free internet! Luckily we were only staying two nights. Otherwise, we would have changed hotels.

  • Liked — Very central and free internet access
  • Disliked — Dirty, hot, and small room

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza Nueva for two nights. It is excellently located and is quite a luxury hotel. Everything is spotless and the twin room was huge with a view over the square. The only problem was the noise from the square below. From early evening to 3am there were people shouting, music being played, dogs barking, and what sounded like people throwing industrial waste around (like they were raiding a building site or something.) The noise was so disturbing, particularly as we were due to get up at 5.30 to go to the Alhambra (nothing could spoil our visit there, though - it is so wondrous!) So stay here by all means, but I would say try and get a room without the view over the square.

We stayed here for 3 nights in March 2007 and paid €85 a night double, ensuite, TV, AC/heat, lift. It looked newly remodeled, and was spotlessly clean. Also one of the largest rooms, definitely the largest bathroom I’ve ever had in Europe. Basically loved the location on right on Plaza Nueva – walking distance to everything, the red mini buses that take you up to the Alhambra (if you don’t want to walk the 20 minute walk) stop right on the plaza. It's a €7 taxi from bus station, €24 taxi to airport. The airport bus stops about a five minute walk away. Two of the three nights we were aware of some noise on the square at night, but the heavy glass windows and wooden shutters kept it quiet enough. But on Friday night it was really loud till 4am. Breakfast was €9 extra so we skipped it but there were several places right on Plaza Nueva where we got breakfast for €2. I would definitly stay there again.
