A last minute change of plans led us to stay in Granada for one night in August 2005 and we chose the Hotel Plaza Nueva based on a very positive four star review in Time Out Andalusia. The hotel is pleasant and offers the basic requirements but does not meet the standards of a four star hotel. We were in Room 37 which has two balconies that overlook the Plaza Nueva and provides a nice view of the Alhambra. The room was average size but had an exceptionally high ceiling. Our biggest complaint, the air conditioning struggled and failed to cool the room comfortably. We tried opening the balcony doors but the noise from the square and the streets below made that impractical. Both the room and the bathroom were clean, although the towels were unfortunately quite small and very thin. We were provided with a mini-bar check list but the refrigerator was empty. The hotel is nicely located. There is immediate access to many bars, restaurants and one of the major shopping streets in Granada. It's just a short stroll to the charming area known as The Albaicin. (We had one of our best dinners in Spain at Restaurante Azafran.) The staff were polite and friendly during out check in/out. The breakfast was less than spectacular with a very meager assortment of cold items. If more was available, as suggested in another review, we weren't informed. All in all, this hotel met our basic needs but does not offer the comfort and amenities one would expect in a proper four star hotel. Be forewarned, as one reviewer noted, driving in Granada is a stress test and parking is worse. Word of advice, find a space in a car park as soon as you get into town.
