My husband and myself work as dj's and travel every week to many hotels all over the world - and being American and female and jewish and a new yorker LOL, I'm very picky ;). We arrived at night to the Santa Paula and were upgraded to a Junior Superior Suite ( I think - room number 001) which was such a comfortable, lovely room with a free minibar. The courtyard and running fountains scattered about the grounds (and little alcoves) is exactly what the doctor ordered for a romantic get away - in a city that means you can still go find some fun to get into; amazing food, landmarks, architecture, and churches (its location is perfect for all).
Jimmy at the front desk is the epitome of hospitality, we had everything we needed (except - our only gripe which can be a big deal to many is that their wireless internet service is beyond rubbish, however they reimbursed us no problems, and someone was coming to fix it the morning we left). The cleaners were my type of women! They could win an international "clean-off" against a Polish OCD team! This seems silly, but coming from the states where this would have resulted in an arrest, we had a tiny bit of doobie we had brought with us, and left it on the side table. Thinking we put the "No Molesta" (i.e. do not disturb) sign on the door - we returned hours later to find the first room suspiciously tidy looking - and realised with horror that the cleaning lady had come in ( I mean we're already dj's in a nice establishment - we were trying to stay low-key y'know?). When I went to look at the side table, she had not only cleaned it but left the doob, papers, ciggies et all, lovingly and in a perfect line on the table, as well as made the entire room beautifully, folded my dresses, treated my mui mui's like they were her own LOL...seriously was a top top job. She came by an hour later and unfortunately I was dozing and my non spanish speaking hubby answered the door half asleep in his pants. I half heard the coversation which was her asking in spanish " is everything okay, can I help with anything else?" and he answering "um, i dont know spanish um yeah okay cool" and myself yelling from the bed "muchas gracias por llavar (my spanish isnt great). todos buenos gracias". Hubby returned with some chocolates she had brought over for us ;). She even brought munchies.
The reception helped us go to the Alhambra, and book our tickets for the train back to Madrid. The turkish bath was out of order so I can see that may have bothered some - but there is so much to get into in Granada that I didnt have time to bother with steaming, sauna's and working out in the gym or whatnot..the restuarant looked very nice - again only managed to have a small bite the first night at midnight when we got in..and enjoyed both wine and meal.
Next time we have some time off or in Spain - this is definitely where we're headed!
