Not the most highly rated Granada hotel by other Trip advisor reviewers, but we were attracted by the hotel's stunning conversion architecture, proximity to the Alhambra & Albaycin and 5 star rating.
Arriving by car, this wasn`t easy to find. Although it's on the Gran via de Colon you have to approach it via some back streets or do as we did and drive down the bus lane, pull up in the hotel's layby outside and then the valets take your bags and park the car up for you (18 Euros per day). All the staff were very courteous.
Built around an old convent, the heart of the hotel is a stunning cloister onto which the lounge and restaurant face along 2 sides. We only breakfasted in the restaurant - part of the package - its buffet was extensive and hot food was cooked to order. First class.
Rooms fall into two categories, the suites surrounding the cloister and more modern rooms at the front facing the Via Colon. These are much less costly but still beautifully appointed and the mini bar is free. There is a small but well quipped gym.
Turn right outside the entrance and within 200 mtrs (passing the enormous Cathedral) turn left at Queen Isabella fountain for the Playa Neueva with its cafes. The tourist office is here too. From the Playa its either straight on alongside the Rio Barro into the Albaycin or take a right and a climb the road / footpath directly to the Alhambra. Steep but easy. If you haven`t previously reserved tickets to visit the Palace. Don`t queue; go along to the automatic machines in a kiosk at the end of the "Platform" . You can buy on C/C without a wait. The Palace was out of this world. We especially liked the views, The Nastrid Palaces and the Generalife Gardens.
This city was great and we found this hotel perfect for our needs.
