My husband and I loved the Hotel America for these reasons:

LOCATION:It is right in the middle of the Alhambra which means it is a PLEASANT WALK (not hard at all) to the ticket office and grounds. The Alhambra is HUGE and it is meant to be walked. DO NOT TAKE people there who have difficulty. Ther are no trams--thank goodness. It is just as it should be.

It is right next door to the pricier Parador, so how much better of a location is possible...?... unless you build another hotel on the grounds but then where would it go? Let's hope no more hotels pop up in this heritage site, or it will become Disneyfied.

CHARMING ROOM: Our room was the top balcony room. Small but very cute with traditional Spainish touches. Anyone who has traveled Europe/UK and admires personal, charming hotels will appreciate it! Personally, we loved the cute accents like the wooden closet with the lace curtain, the lovely tiles and wood. No, this is not a LUXURY Hotel; go elsewhere for slick decor void of character. Or balance out your trips with a mix of luxury and unique character to get the best of both worlds.

Noise was not a problem for us--I am sorry for those who had this problem. I always think this is the luck of the draw--one never knows when this can happen, no matter what the quality of the hotel might be. We were in a sound-proof stone-walled castle last year--or so we thought--until I read a noise complaint on trip advisor. Luck of the draw...!

PROXIMITY TO TOWN: We walked into town. It is safe and you will get a sense of the layout, architecture, cute nooks, etc. On our two nights there, we walked to an AMAZING flamenco performance in the gypsy quarter, top tapas in the heart of the main city(no tourists except us--but the server/tender was so friendly and helpful. We had a blast!)and we found(without the aid of any guide book) an incredible restaurant. We are big foodies--having dined in the best places around the world. And I can say this is the best roasted pork ever you'll ever taste!

SERVICE: The owner of Hotel America called the above restaurant for us and without even telling us, secured for us the most special table. It overlooked the city below with no obstruction. The servers treated us like royalty--I suspect due to the Hotel's call. Again no tourists there, but there seemed to be very sophisticated, Spanish clientale at one table. Romantic couples dotted the others on the spacious terrace. So lovely!!

That was our experience at Hotel America.
We hope you have a great one, too.

my wife, once more seduced by karen brown, booked the america for two nights. karen likes the term "charming" and that is what it was, if you mean neat, clean, decorated with loving care, as was our room. maybe cosy is the best word.
you stay inside the walls of the alhambra which sounds great but that means also that you are at night in the middle of nothing, and to fetch the tickets for the alhambra palaces means going down to the parking place, quite a walk.
not so charming was the sitting area, some crammed seats just opposite the reception desk, and the quality of the building itself. the walls are so thin you can hear every cough, every flush of the toilet, every word of your neighbours, and all calls from the reception desk. be prepared to use your earplugs, or you will be awake all night. the mattress was covered with a layer of plastic, that made you sweat, and the sheets weren´t of the best quality.
if you want the alhambra experience, give the parador or the alhambra palace a thought. these two are also better choices for dining and breakfast, at a reasonable price, whereas the breakfast in hotel america is overpriced, regarding choice and quality.

their website: (---)

I did not really like the city of Granada, so I was glad to stay at this hotel away from the city up at the fabulous Alhambra.

I can't rave enough about the location, it was awesome. If you wanted to go into the city there was a very cheap bus which was fast (5 min) and arrived at regular intervals. Service stopped at about 11pm though.

We just parked at Alhambra, and walked 10 min to Hotel. Older or lazy visitors probably should drive directly to hotel to drop off bags - it may be hard to find - you have to drive in, then take right fork up hill, through hole in wall, then continue up hill.

If you give hotel receipt to parking office you get slight discount on parking.

Positives
- excellent location
- rooms clean
- air-con (although was switched off between aprox 10am and 2pm)
- good bus service to city

Negatives
- none

PS- remember to book tickets for Alhambra in advance, you can do it on their website. Otherwise you have to get up at 7am!

My husband and I stayed here two nights. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were tiny. This is not a luxury hotel.
The walls of our room were stone and the "closet" was a few shelves in a niche with a curtain over it. The windows opened out over the patio restaurant below which was kind of neat. If you want convenience to the Alhambra, it would be tolerable for a couple of nights. The whole place also has that ancient sewer smell you find all over Spain.

Excellent choice if you are looking for a peaceful and charming hotel. I was lucky to get the room 110 with a balcony and a wonderful jasmin. Owners were very nice and friendly and I really want to come back.
It's very well located, right in the hearth of La Alhambra, and in a minute you can get to the Plaza of Algibes, Nazari Palaces and Alcazaba.
