Hi.

Really a bad expereince.

The room was small and noisy, and the bathroom did not smell very well. I did not expect very much for a 1 star hotel, but.... Also by this price I could see some 3 stars hotels.

Also, the staff is not very friendly, even one night we must wait in the door more than half an hour because nobody open the door. I supose they must be sleping.

Next time I'll try other hotel.

We stayed at the Carlos V for 2 nights. Our room was a good size with brightly colored walls and paintings. The bathroom was large and newly redone. As someone else mentioned in her review, the walls are thin. We had a screaming child next door, but this could have happened anywhere. Our main reservation about the hotel was the indifference of the staff. They weren't unhelpful but gave minimal information. An example - The hotel desk gave us directions to the garage to park our car (which was in the same building as the hotel, but in essence you have to go around several blocks to get back to it). When we got there, a sign said "completo" and there was a cone in the entrance. So we went around the block(s) again. Same story. So we parked in front of the hotel and went up to the 4th floor of the building (where the hotel is), and the receptionist said, "Well, did you honk?" Then she called the garage and asked if there was a space for us. There was. So we went around again, honked, and the attendant came to the entrance to let us in. This is just one example of giving minimal info. There were others.

The location of the hotel is good as was the price. The hotel is not far from many of the tourist sights. We walked uphill to the Alhambra. It took about 1/2 hour. There's a grocery store on the ground floor of the building. And it's close to many restaurants and tapas bars.

Although we would give the hotel some plusses, I don't think we'd stay at Carlos V again. We prefer a hotel with a more welcoming staff. But it was a good value for the price.

  • Liked — location, price
  • Disliked — indifferent staff
  • Tips/Secrets: — Calle Navas - a street with many tapas bars is very close to the hotel; right near the hotel is Rosario, which turns into Navas

We were told that they had over booked and could not accommodate us and the staff act as though they don't really care. Finally a really small room (not double) was for us.

The shower didnt work and they were very unhelpful, we are two in the room and they only give us a bath kit. We as for another one but it never comes.

Also, the room was very noisy.

Definately NOT recommended.

we stayed at the carlos v in feb...a snowy time of the year in granada but much less crowded than peak times which was good. we were not cold in the carlos v as there as individual air con/heating units in the room, ample hot water (v snazzy shower/bathroom) and hot drinks available from a little bar in the reception.
the hotel was in a fantastic location easily reached from the airport bus stop. there were also loads of fantastic cafes and resturants serving excellent quality, reasonably priced food a stones throw away. the area was very safe (we were 2 female travellers) and the reception manned 24 hours.
the rooms were spacious, decor contempory, beds comfy and linen and towels high quality. i have no idea why this hotel is 1 star. i have stayed in far worse 4 stars.
the town is on your door step and you can walk very easily to the cathedral, main square complete with arabic tea houses and baths and shopping district.
i have no complaints at all with this hotel, although if you are a night owl it might not be up your street as there is no bar open at night, but tons of places on the doorstep.
a fantastic place to stay and excellent value for money! highly recomended
