We've just returned from 4 nights in Casa del Aljarife and it was a lovely experience. It's in the heart of the Albaicin, so it's a bit of a climb from the centre, but that means that you're in the heart of old Granada. We were able to walk everywhere over the space of our 4 days, including up to the Alhambra and to the two monasteries.

We stayed in Room 3, with a view of the Alhambra, and the room was spotlessly clean, unbelievably quiet and very comfortable.

Christian Most is a great host and was very helpful and welcoming. The continental breakfast is also great value at €5 and a good stress-free start to the day.

My husband and I just returned to the states from a trip through Spain with friends. We stayed in some nice places, but, without a doubt the Casa del Aljarife was the high point for us. From the moment I called Chris to tell him we were in the town square and heard his enthusiastic response, I knew we'd chosen the right place. He came down to the square to help us carry our bags through the hilly streets of Granada. Our room overlooked the Alhambra, and the view was breathtaking. The sheets and bathroom were immaculate. Chris went so far as to walk us to our restaurant choices each night to make finding them easier. He served us wonderful breakfasts each morning, and carried our bags back to the square when we (sadly) departed. We would make a trip to Granada just to stay at this wonderful little hotel again!

I would not recommend the Casa del Arjarife. It was not as nice as I expected from reading descriptions and looking at pictures on the web. The rooms were decent but the rest of the establishment and surrounding neighborhood was run down and dirty.
I did not feel comfortable walking in the surrounding neighborhood late at night.
Getting our luggage from the recommend parking lot to the Pension was much more work than I expected, as it was more than 10 blocks away, and up several blocks of narrow cobblestone streets and stair cases with periodic steps.

I will cocur with another poster who stated that there was no AC in our room, or simple ammenities like soap / shampoo provided in our room.

Worst of all was, the proprietor of the Pension who we initially found strange, but later decided that he was just downwrite rude to us.

Spend your money in one of the other delightful establishments in this beautiful city.

We stayed for three nights at the Casa del Aljarife having read reviews on trip advisor and been recommended by a friend. We were not disappointed. Yes it's a considerable uphill climb from the Placa Nueva, but the owner met us within five minutes of phoning him and carried our luggage for us. When we were there the whole of the street leading up to the area was dug up so it's very dusty and more difficult to climb at the moment.
We were in room 3 - great view of the Alhambra, good bathroom with plenty of hot water and really lovely big towels. Air conditioning worked fine - yes it does shut off after an hour if you leave it on auto and don't turn it to continuous, but it's not a problem to leave the windows overlooking the courtyard open at night for air. There was noise from the street, mainly revellers returning late at night, but closing the windows overlooking the street was effective enough for it not to be a problem.
We had breakfast each morning in the courtyard, only a few euros each, but not for the early riser as it's only served between 9 and 11am.
Don't stay if you expect luxury toiletries in the bathroom, room service and all the facilities of a large hotel, but if you are looking for a good value, spotlessly clean room in a great location and with a helpful host, then we would definitely recommend this place.

This hotel is a terrible value, as expensive as others which offer much more. We knew the hotel was not accessible to cars (not ours; not a taxi) & required a 10 minute uphill climb carrying our baggage. This wasn't a problem for us, as it felt like an adventure going through the Arab market searching for our lodging. The problem, when we did arrive - a bit winded but prepared to be charmed - was the host, who we found rude and completely unhelpful. That is the greatest, but not the only, drawback here. The room itself was really fine, but the promise of air-conditioning was basically a lie. Yes, there is a unit in the room which can be turned on, but it is programmed to turn off automatically in one hour. I spent a stifling night getting up to turn on the unit (which required turning on the light to find the little orange button) every single hour. Be warned! Southern Spain is very hot in summer & if you are someone who likes AC this hotel is a real bust. We also found it expensive compared to all the other places we stayed in that had much better amenities for similar prices, eg there is no shampoo or anything in the bathroom except a bottle of liquid soap which you transfer from sink to shower. Really unpleasant overall.
