We stayed for three nights at the Casa del Aljarife having read reviews on trip advisor and been recommended by a friend. We were not disappointed. Yes it's a considerable uphill climb from the Placa Nueva, but the owner met us within five minutes of phoning him and carried our luggage for us. When we were there the whole of the street leading up to the area was dug up so it's very dusty and more difficult to climb at the moment.
We were in room 3 - great view of the Alhambra, good bathroom with plenty of hot water and really lovely big towels. Air conditioning worked fine - yes it does shut off after an hour if you leave it on auto and don't turn it to continuous, but it's not a problem to leave the windows overlooking the courtyard open at night for air. There was noise from the street, mainly revellers returning late at night, but closing the windows overlooking the street was effective enough for it not to be a problem.
We had breakfast each morning in the courtyard, only a few euros each, but not for the early riser as it's only served between 9 and 11am.
Don't stay if you expect luxury toiletries in the bathroom, room service and all the facilities of a large hotel, but if you are looking for a good value, spotlessly clean room in a great location and with a helpful host, then we would definitely recommend this place.
