This is an excellent choice for those on a tight budget. The hotel is well located in the middle of the new part of town, with lots of bars, shops and transport close by. All the major sights are within walking distance - although most are up-hill! The bedrooms are clean and practical. Beds are big, the storage space adequate, the bathroom clean and heating good. The staff are very friendly. I saw many nicer hotels in this wonderful city, but doubt that any would be better value than this. If you want 5 star facilities then pay alot more elsewhere. If you want a cheap few days in a good value hotel right in the centre of things then book the Juan Miguel.

The hotel's advantages are the location (very close to the centre) and price (modest). Moreover, public transport is fast and frequent from the nearby bus stop to the railway and bus stations.

However, the room is quite spartan and not very comfortable. Some of the furniture seemed quite old and we did not use it as we could not determine how clean it was.
The window is covered by 3 sets of curtains: 2 are ornamental (only covers a fraction of the window space) and the other one is actually functional; in our case, it was broken and did not cover the window entirely.
When we got into our room we found hairs on the toilet seat (easily removed) and in the sink. In the latter case, it almost blocked the sink and the water flow was quite slow.
The television had a number of channels (including a few satellite ones such as CNN) but reception was very poor and only a few of the Spanish channels could be clearly seen.
There was no mini-bar.

All-in-all, the hotel was OK. Not luxurious in any way but acceptable for a short stay. The staff were quite friendly and helped out whenever we asked them.

We stayed at the Juan Miguel for 4 nights in July and I must say I thought it was great. The location is fantastic, you could not be in a better position, the room, whilst not luxurious was spotlessly clean and well equipped, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was an absolute feast! Reading some of the other reviews, I am amazed! I just don't know what some people expect, this hotel is very cheap, especially for the location, we paid only £160 for 4 nights including breakfast. Granada itself is a lovely laid back city with a great atmosphere and for all you ladies it is a shoe mecca, it has the most shoe shops I have ever seen in a city and they are all wonderful.

It is only a few minutes walk to buses for the Alhambra and the city tour bus stops right outside the hotel. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

My wife and myself were very pleased with Hotel Juan Miguel. We booked on line just a couple days in advance. The people at the desk were helpful and courteous. The price of 47 Euro did not include breakfast or parking, but that was ideal for us. We were provided a very nice room - clean comfortable, air conditioned and with a cute little balcony. The hotel is in an excellent location for shopping and restaurants. It costs about 5 euros for a taxi to the train station. or to the Alhambra entrance.

This "3 Star" hotel was built in the 1980s and looks like it hasn't been touched since. The location is decent but in our 3 nights there we found the place the be noisy, even in our inside room. Concerning some previous reviews... indeed there are 10 steps to go up from the lobby to the very small elevator, which might be a factor to consider for some travelers. One review noted that the breakfast buffet is included-- but don't assume that. In booking the place, the rate I got directly from the hotel via e-mail was double the rate I got on the Internet but breakfast was not included. Don't be fooled by the 3 Star rating and look for 2 Star prices. Unlike some hotels we've used who have firm rates, the prices vary greatly and may change after you book. If you book in advance via Internet spot check the rates again then cancel and rebook if they change. In general, we found Granada to be our least favorite stop during a 2-week trip in Spain. One option is to do a day trip there to see the Alhambra as there is not much else and the food was the worst we had on our trip. The Alhambra is one of the most visited sites in Europe and is indeed interesting... but not worth unduly routing your trip to go and see it. For example, day trips from Madrid to Segovia (small town with a fabulous Roman aqueduct), Avila (small medieval walled city) and Jerez (sherry and horses) are just as pleasant, less crowed, and there is far more to do in Madrid if you base out of there. In general we found Spain to be far less appealing than the other countries in Europe we have visited.
