A functional modern hotel with all the facilities you need. Rooms are a little small, but well equipped. Decent breakfast buffet although dinner didn’t look to appetising. The bbq and outdoor bar were closed when we were there, but have heard that it’s good. Its best points are excellent value for money and the location just across the road from the Alhambra and its car park (you get a discount if you have to park at the latter. The hotel charges for its own limited parking). It’s a long hill down to the city centre but buses ply the route every 3 minutes, making the return climb unnecessary.

The location could not be better .. a very short walk from the Alhambra (<5 min walking slowly).

The service was indifferent at best. Two examples: One towel in the room. I took a shower when I arrived and then asked for a dry towel for the evening. The answer "No." Asked the manager. Same answer. The good news: The question was asked in both Spanish and English. Same answer both times. Consistancy is important. No reason given.

Asked if there was any Internet service. Reception pointed to two terminals (1 euro gets you 15 minutes). Both terminals were broken (and had signs so stating). When I pointed this out, I was greated with a shrug. The good news: There IS WiFi available. For some reason, they decided not to tell me about it.

Rooms are small (by Spanish standards, I am not comparing to North America) and in need of a deep cleaning at least. The heat did not work at all. Please visit in summer and report on the air con. <grin>

The only reason I stayed here was that I was meeting my nephew who was traveling with a group. I wll be the last time I stay at this hotel.

I have just returned from a 4 night stay in this Hotel with my son. The twin room was clean, comfortable and peaceful, however we did miss a coffee/tea making facility. The reception and bar staff were courteous and obliging but the dining room staff were not. We were bed and breakfast and the breakfast was edible with a good choice of bread and pastries. The location is ideal for visiting the Alhambra and the Hotel is easy to find if you are driving. The only downside is the charge of 12e a day for parking. We discovered too late that for 8e you can take public transport from Malaga airport. We walked to the town for dinner (downhill) and took the bus (no30) back for 1e. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from and the town has a good selection of shops. We paid 12.40e each for the city tour bus and wished we hadn't - there is not much else to see and we could have walked or caught a local bus. The tour of the Alhambra is greatly enhanced if you hire the audio taped tour for 3e. There was no queue at the time we went (8am). I would recommend this Hotel for an off season visit.

The Hotel Alixares is in a perfect location for the Alhambra but that's about all. We only booked B&B but were advised that we could use the restaurant (as you would expect) and that also there was Room Service. We tried the room service option but no one could understand me!!!! Breakfast was quite unpleasant, the buffet lunch was ok and I can not comment on the dinner as when we went to enter we were told by the rather rude Maitre d to wait to the side as we were not in a 'Group'..... we didn't bother..... Instead we got the 'Not for the faint hearted' bus that runs from the Alhambra to the centre of Granada where we were able to get a great meal at one of the many restaurants. The room was adequate and clean. I would visit Granada again but would definately not stay at this hotel.

  • Liked — Clean rooms
  • Disliked — We were made to feel we were unimportant as we were not in a group.
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you are only there for the Alhambra do not stay here for more than 2 nights

Excellent position for alhambra - if you already have tickets great, but if not (like us) then it's up at 630am and the 2 minute walk to the queue (prob about 2 hours in queue) and then you get in. also walk into town to plaza nueva is very short downhill and then either walk up hill or get the €1 bus. hotel is clean, rooms are slightly smal, but you only sleep there!! excellent service and plenty of parking
