Hotel Alixares Granada
6th March 2006 Terry , Liverpool(2 mid age couples)
Just back from 3 day trip to Granada I will try to add new information, stayed at Alixares, Reception spot on very helpful, rooms large spotless up to date, mini bar very cheap baccardi + coke Eur 2.40, hotel bar price Euro 6.00, happy hour normal spirits half price but not the beer,1800-2000. Lunch or eve meal Euro13.50, eat as much as you like not ala carte but thats not ala carte prices, vacate room 1200 (thats a bonus)luggage room open 24hrs. Avoid rooms 115-119 these tend to be noisey in mornings due to its location near to cleaners office.Must do, magic open top red bus tour of Granada book at reception 10.88 euros valid for 24hrs from first use.You will get free Tapas with every drink but not at the touristy bars and not at the La Gran taberna at bottom of hill.

Stayed in this hotel for a week, opposite Alhambra, lots of walks around area. Would not advise this hotel if limited mobility due to steep hill on which alhambra is situated. Quiet rooms are well furnished with chairs and table and nice bathroom. Avoid first floor rooms (138 in particular) as smelt terrible, the spanish drains! Was moved to fourth floor without any problems and that room was good. Breakfasts are buffet style, plenty to choose from. Standard included rolls, crossaints, cooked choice, cheese meats fruit yoghurt cereal.Avoid evening/ daytime food unless you like canteen standard catering, much better to go to city. Position of hotel was good, number 30 minibus just down the road went every few minutes to city until 23.00. Walked down (steep hill) and caught bus back 1 euro (get a bulk ticket 9 x trips for 5.45 euro,or 20 for 10.80 especially if more than one person).Loads to do esp.if like exploring. Go to arab quarter just off plaza neuva (Albycin)or catch the 32 minibus. Also the cathedral, many lovely squares to sit & people watch, Kids will like the science park. Skiing resort only 30mins away.
25 euro taxi to hotel from airport or catch 3euro airport bus to cathedral then 32 minibus up to hotel.

After booking a special deal on this hotel at a very competitive price for a two night stay to visit the Alhambra, I couldn't help thinking that there might be a catch. There wasn't. It is excellently placed for the tourist. Clean, well decorated and hospitable, offering a good buffet breakfast (a big hit with my teenage sons). A bonus was the pleasant walk through the olive groves to the side and rear of the hotel. Through the olive trees I could see the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

I only saw some of the reviews about this hotel after I had booked a stay with my wife. Some of the reviews were not very encouraging. We went in October, so perhaps it's different out of main season. We found the hotel to be of a very high standard. Our room was quite large and clean. Dark wood furniture and tiled floors. TV and hairdryer. The public areas were a little small and full of smokers, but the law on smoking in Spain is changing so this should not be a problem in future for non-smokers. We were travelling independently and perhaps we had more personal attention from the waiters than the tour groups.
We aren't great fans of buffet food, but the buffet looked well up to international standards. We ate from the al la carte menu, which was excellent, and a good mix of local and international cuisine.
The hotel is up a steep hill out of Granada, across the road from the Alhambra. It is certainly a prime location if you are visiting the Alhambra. We went to the Alhambra early in the morning and missed the crowds, I would certainly recommend that tactic.
There is a little bus which stops outside the hotel and takes you down to Granada. If you are young and fit you could always walk, but it is steep!
We arrived by car late at night and I was worried about finding the hotel. My best advice is simply to follow signs to the Alhambra, which is well signed on the motorway. The hotel is right opposite the Alhambra car park. The hotel were happy to offer me garaged parking and brought the car round to the front of the hotel when I needed it.
All in all, an excellent stay, my only gripe was the lack of public space, otherwise, oustanding.

Me and my friends stayed at the Alixares Hotel for 3 nights and 2 days. The first thing I noticed was how close the hotel is from the Alahambra and it is only a short walking distance from downtown plaza where all the shops are. Also breakfast is included with the cost of the room, but not lunch and dinner that will cost you extra. The rooms could use a upgrade and the housekeeping was average, but overall the convenience of being directly up the hill from the Alahambra and shops was worth it!! Oh yes beware of parking...... they have it available but, it is not big enough for all of the guests at the hotel. Subsequently, you would have to park in the Alahambra's parking area, which could result in a fee of 14 euros a day!!!!
