I stayed at the Guadalupe for 2 nights on a trip to Granada, mainly to see the Alhambra. For this the hotel is ideal, being located just across the road from the entrance. If your main business is in the town, you can catch a shuttle bus into Plaza Nueva which takes 5 mins and costs €1. I wouldn't recommend walking the incline to the hotel unless you enjoy a hike.

The hotel itself seemed average, however we were directed to a room in another part of the builing - the 'Residence Guadalupe'. This was a few doors up and we were told it was new. The room was compact but clean and quite pleasant, although we had a view of a red tin roof. It should be noted that the rooms do not come equipped with irons and you cannot get one, so bring a travel iron if you don't want to have to steam your clothes in the shower!

The bathroom was clean and bright, decorated with pretty tiles and the shower pressure was excellent (perfect for steaming out the creases!)

Breakfast was what I would expect from a hotel of this rating, the usual selection of meats, breads and fruit. It was nothing special but definately sets you up for the day and the staff service was average (no complaints).

For visiting the Alhambra the hotel is in a great spot. The buses into town run every few minutes from early morning (around 7am) until around 11.30pm so you shouldn't have a problem getting into town either, although if you have a few days planned in Granada away from the Alhambra I would recommend staying in the town.

I have stayed in this hotel previously. I went back because I knew it was near the entrance to the Alhambra complex. My room was 217 in the corner overlooking the very noisy air conditioning plant was without doubt the worst room I have ever stayed in.
The bathroom had a broken toilet seat, rusty shower rail, filthy shower curtain and the bath was fitted the wrong way round; so the plug stuck in your back.
The bar was closed for redecoration, so we went up the road to the next hotel bar. The entrance door were being revarnished and the smell permeated the whole reception and beyond.
Breakfast was terrible,we arrived as it opened and the hot food was already cold and barely edible. The waiters were poor. This hotel, from my experience, appears to be run for the staff & not the guests.
This hotel does not merit two stars.
My advice is to stay away!

Excellent location, very near main gate to Alhambra, with parking (for a fee) in the Alhambra parking lot. Easy to get to hotel (just follow sigs for Alhambra). Frequent bus service down hill to other parts of city.

Generous and varied breakfast buffet for a reasonable price and good dinners in the restaurant. (Cafe was closed for renovation when we were there.)

Wonderful view of the Alhambra from the balcony of our well-appointed room. (Room 412 on the top floor.) Great bathroom with excellent shower and jacuzzi. Very clean.

Excellent value.

GOOD POINTS:
1. Excellent location for the Alhambra - the entrance is about 2 min walk downhill.
2. Very helpful staff
3. Rooms are clean and well furnished

BAD POINTS:
1. The walls were quite thin, so toilet flushing by us and the next room is torture to the ears.
2. Not much activity at the top of the hill, and you will have to go to town for food / shopping.
3. Due to the location on the top of the hill, a taxi is relatively expensive to the airport, about 25-27 euros.

OTHER INFO:
I booked a room on the 4th floor, which has the larger and more expensive rooms, after reading the recommendations for room 412. Unfortunately 412 and 407 (the rooms with large balconies) were taken and we got room 408, which was large and well equipped but only had a small ledge. This room had two single beds, although I specifically requested for a double.

I booked straight through them (+34958223423 or ---) and paid 69 euros per night. Breakfast was not included. Hotel staff were very efficient and helped us book the Alhambra tickets. Note that you have to pay a 10% charge (1 euro per ticket) to them for booking it, which they didn't mention. You then have to redeem this booking slip at the Alhambra to get the actual ticket.

There are a few restaurants in the area but none were open for dinner, so we ate at the hotel restaurant. The food was alright, nothing spectacular for the 3 course set dinner which cost about 15 euros.

Overall it was great except for the loud toilet flushing mentioned above. I would recommend a hotel in town since there is so much more shopping, eating and walking to do there. Although the Alhambra is uphill, you can take a bus there for 1 euro each way.

BTW there is an airport shuttle bus service from town which costs about 4 euros per pax. Much cheaper than the taxi!

This hotel is well-known and well-reviewed, but I think we hit it at an off-time. It's well located, just across from the Alhambra, and there's a bus that comes regularly and often that will take you into the city. The rooms are large and comfortable, but the plumbing was erratic during our stay, with brown water and no service for a half an hour at a time. The lobby had a sewage smell at various moments. It feels like a higher-end budget hotel, but the restaurant is very pricey, so we never used it. The staff was okay--rather impersonal, I felt. They were unable to give me change for a $50 euro bill at one point and I had to hike up the hill to a fancier hotel. Not great.
