If the objective of your visit to Granada is the Alhambra, then there is no better hotel value in the city. The Guadalupe's proximity to the Alhambra's ticket office alone (practically across the street) is its most distinguishing attribute. This can be especially important in the morning: the Alhambra opens at 8:00 a.m., though the line for tickets can already be sizable at 7:45 a.m.. AND THEY DO SELL OUT!!

The hotel itself is quite clean and pleasant, with comfortable rooms and tasty meals in its restaurant. And despite its convenience to frequent and easy public buses, the walk downhill through the gardens to the Plaza Nueva can be a beguiling Granada memory in itself.

Well, after I made reservations in Granada and Sevilla for the wrong days, I had to find another hotel in Granada. Did the TripAdvisor search from a computer in Madrid and found the Hotel Guadalupe. It is about 50 meters from the entrance to the Alhambra. It's a very nice place, like a small version of a nice Sheraton. Very helpful front desk staff, clean & attractive room, great rate. We had a standard room with an almost-queen-size bed, desk, and built-in music. Hint: this is one of those hotels where you have to insert your room key into a slot to make the power in the room turn on. We made phone reservations directly with the front desk 2 days prior to our stay and paid 61 euros + tax. That was about 12 euros cheaper than anything on the internet. I don't really know where in Granada a lot of the other hotels are located, because I didn't notice any as we shopped and saw the local sites. While the Hotel Guadalupe is at the top of the hill where the Alhambra is, it's a quick bus ride (.95 euros for the #30 or #32 bus right outside the Alhambra) or a very pleasant 10 minute walk down the hill to the Plaza Nueva. (Bus service stops at 11:00pm) Once you're at the bottom of the hill, there are a lot of things within 2 blocks - the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel, the Columbus statue, the Arabian baths, Plaza Nueva, good restaurants/tapas bars, and lots of shopping. So, given the wonderful quality of the hotel and it's proximity to the sights, we would definitely stay here again on a future visit.

We agree with the previous posters. The hotel is perfectly situated across the street from the Alhambra (you can even go to get your reserved tickets the day before) and has excellent access to public transportation. Arriving by car, you can use the watched Alhambra parking. Keep your registration form from the hotel as with this you get a discount on the parking fee upon leaving. Some of the rooms have windows going only to a wall, making them dark, but they are more silent then the ones to the street. After walking the whole day we decided to have dinner at the hotel. They have a decent set multichoice menu for only EUR 14.00 (lunch EUR 9.50) with local fare. Breakfast has a cold and warm buffet. The bar is cozy (and fills the glasses well!) We recommend the hotel. Try to make reservation directly with them by e-mail - very friendly and fast and much lower rates than the agencies.

We spent Holy week 2005 in Granada and stayed at the Hotel Guadalupe and were so happy. Our school uses this hotel for school trips. Based on their recommendation, I canceled our nights at the paradar (VERY expensive) and made reservations for 5 nights at the HG.

It was the best decision I made. There are many wonderful and expensive restaurants to try and for what you save on the room, you can afford the wonderful meals (Carmen de San Miguel was spectacular for dinner). But more than a great hotel, the service really makes this place stand out. Javier was the manager who answers all the email and he went the extra mile for us. He secured tickets for a day and a night visit to the Alhambra when the online ticket web site said they were sold out.

Every evening we stopped and asked the night manager for dinner suggestions and ever suggestion he made was wonderful.

If you can, ask for room 412. It has a jacuzzi tub and a balcony were you can sit and ponder the alhambra at night. A thoroughly charming and wonderful hotel.
