We booked 2 nights here, because of vicinity to Alhambra Palace. I thought rate was 'too good to be true' at EUR92 including a rollaway and I should have trusted my instincts. The room size is Ok if there isn't the extra bed, we found it very tight to fit us and our luggage in! When we arrived I saw that the 'free' hotel computer for guests had a large sign 'out of order' and it wasn't fixed during our stay. Additionally, there's meant to be wifi access which you couldn't access in your room, but you could pick up a faint signal outside the lift and in the hotel lobby. The frustrating thing was, it was extremely slow and kept dropping out so it was basically useless for checking emails etc. The other thing was, there were no power points free in the room to be able to charge up mobile phones, camera batteries etc. We had to unplug the fridge to free one up! The bathroom was well laid out and had a shower over bath. However there was quite a bit of hair and dust build up behind the door and the first day I left it, to see whether the room cleaner would fix it when making up the room. No they didn't! -so I ended up getting rid of it myself as I felt it made the bathroom feel grotty. The hand towel that was replaced in the room didn't appear clean to me either. The other thing was, as others have stated, the walls are literally paper thin. My husband could hear antics from the room next door when he was sitting near the lift to get the wireless network! A cold change came through whilst we were there and the very strong winds whistled up the corridor outside our room and our door was banging incessantly until I wedged a suitcase up against it in the middle of the night to make it stop!
The front desk staff however were very helpful with check in and information about the Alhambra etc. We had pre booked tickets and took their advice to visit the ticket machines and redeem them in the afternoon prior to our visit. That way we avoided the queues the next morning. We had a ticket for 1030am at the Nasrid Palace, but you should be aware that the ticket actually expires at 2.00pm that afternoon so you need to get around pretty quickly if you want to see the generalife too. The Alhambra makes no arrangement for those who don't speak Spanish. In the palaces, english information about them was all but non existent so you didn't really know about what you were looking at! I ended up buying a DVD in English about the Alhambra which I will now view to find out about it!!
We did eat a dinner n the hotel restaurant and it was actually very good food. The waiters were run off their feet with diners though and you had to wait a while to order and our bottle of wine arrived well after our main course had arrived and only because we asked for it again!
On the day of check out, we had a whole day free so we asked the the front desk staff about finding a 'nice, interesting town within an hour's drive' before our very late flight out to London. We had a car and so were told to visit the town of Guadix-for whatever reason I will never know. There were no redeeming features about it, not even a good place to get a nice lunch. We ended up driving back to a truck stop and sitting at the diner so we could eat and have a drink. All in all a rather depressing experience!
I guess the motto is you get what you pay for. If I went back again I would stay in the city of Granada and take the shuttle bus up the hill to visit. These are efficient, they run very often so it's easy to get in and out of town. We felt isolated at night as the only place to eat was the restaurant in the hotel unless you went into town which we did on the first night. We enjoyed the markets near the cathedral and there are plenty of good restaurants in that area too.
lastly, if arriving by car you need to park in front of the hotel to unload bags and the hotel will give you a docket to get cheaper parking. This means instead of going into the paid parking area you should veer left of it and that road will take you to the front of the hotel. Once bags are unloaded it's possible to park the car. We managed to get carpark number 1, the nearest to the hotel.
