We stayed at this hotel for five nights. The staff were most helpful. The hotel was clean and the room was small but acceptable. So why was our experience terrible? 1) Every day we got an awful sewerage smell in the room which appeared to be becoming from directly outside our window. 2) The plumbing mad an awful noise that could be heard throughout the hotel so why nothing was done abou it I cannot imagine. Every time we or the people in the room next to ours or above ours or below ours used their toilet it made a noise that could not fail to raise the dead. 3) The sound insulation between rooms is pathetic. We could here every word being spoken in the room next door (either side) and presumably they could here us.

Bottom line I would never recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a decent nights sleep.

I can only think that the last reviewer was staying in a different hotel. This is the worst experience I have had with a hotel in the entire six week trip and indeed prior to this trip.

If the hotel management wants to contact me about this review I am happy to accomodate them.

PS the rooms have no coffee/tea making facility or facilities for ironing clothes and the laundry service is expensive.

  • Disliked — The smell emanating from immediatelu\y outside the room and the noise coming from the plumbing and the poor noise insulation between rooms.

After leaving Valencia bright and early,( thanks to a nightmare Pension disaster),, we arrived early noon in Granada and took the bypass to go direct to the Alhambra.

We went into the Parking area for the Castle and parked as close to entrance as possible .Very quiet, so no problem. On walking down to get info on Castle , we could see 2 / 3 hotels above us on hillside. After getting info we progressed up steps from Park to check hotels.

We liked the look of the Guadalupe so went inside. Very neat and tidy and a small restaurant facing front. A very good Receptionist gave us their room choices ,( rates vary as to sizes of room, positioning etc.). We liked the sound of a room on 4th floor which transpired to be Room 412 and liked immediately. Its big Window faces out onto walls of Castle and right down hill towards Granada itself. It also has a big veranda off bedroom.Very happy as, as a bonus, it has english language news channels .Room was cleaned and tidied spotlessly on returning from town for our 2nd night and indeed on our stay we found cleanliness of Hotel in general to be very high.

Bed was a Queen , big bathroom with tub , both very tidy!, 21" tv ,great views -delighted. We stayed for 2 nights as by time you see Castle grounds etc you need the time to relax. No tea tray but we always bring our own , so be prepared.

Breakfast was a Buffet affair at Eur9.00 + VAT per head for Hot , and to be honest I have had a lot better. Spanish sausages, bacon ,tomatoes ,eggs , boiled eggs were hot offerings and buffet selection was not very enticing. Dining room is big and airy with big windows looking down into street and Castle Parking area.
It suited us as we were tired both mornings to eat here ,but if we do again we would probably not eat there again. Just uninspired and a bit expensive for what you get. We had a Room order meal on 1st night from Restaurant that also was quite poor, so food is not its best asset.

Overall , we would love to see the Alhambra again and have a longer stay to see Granada and area better. We did walk down the path from Hotel to the Town and up the hills to the Church (forget name) ,with the views acosss to Castle and Mountains after seeing Castle ,and it was all well worth the effort. A lot more to see and we intend to return even if just for the magical Alhambra itself.

We paid Eur99 per night for B&B in total ,which apart from Breakfast, we felt was well worth its central position. . You can get cheaper rooms but this was well worth it .To sit on veranda and catch sunrise at 8 am and sunset at about 6 pm was well worth it.We intend to return to see more of Castle, Granada and area and would have no problems staying in the 'Guadalupe' as our base.

I do not agree with the previous review. We stayed 2 nights in Hotel Guadalupe, one of the nicest hotels during our holidays in Andalusia. We had 2 double rooms on the 3the floor, which were spacious, clean and had a nice bathroom. The views from room 305 are great (nature) and the rooms were quiet at night.

Breakfast was a bit expensive, 9 euros a person, but this was compensated by friendly service, and everything you could ask for (coffee, tea, eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, cornflakes, orange juice, fruits, ...). Parking is expensive but convenient as it is close to the hotel (if you are lucky and find a space on parking 1 of the Alhambra) and you can avoid the city center.

Dinner was ok, service, quality and price. They have a basic menu for around 13 Euros which is good and more than enough.
The location is also a big plus if you do not like to be disturbed by cars and other noice. You can go to the center on foot (850 meters) but it is quite steep. The tourist bus stops 50 meters from the hotel and is a good alternative for elderly people.

At the reception they are not always smiling, but correct and helpfull if necessary.

Just returned from a two week stay and we were glad to get home.Stayed there three years ago and it was great, but it`s really gone down now.Reception may have been "Tarted Up" but the room we were in was never cleaned properly. There were literally piles of dust and fluff under our bed, which by the way was very lumpy. We did complain but nothing was done.
Food was nowhere near standard we expected and dining room was dirty under the serveries.
Staff on reception and bar were ignorant and there was unruly and noisy "Yobs" up and down corridors ALL night. We got absolutely sick of it.I would not recomend this hotel to my worst enemy!

We chose the Hotel Guadalupe for its prime location across the street from the Alhambra. We only had 24 hours to spend in Granada and had 9 a.m. Nasrid Palace tickets so thought it would be best to stay closeby. The Hotel Guadalupe was good value for the money (we paid 75 Euros per room) and was perfectly adequate for an overnight stay.

The hotel was easy to deal with by internet and, although our travel plans got completely screwed up and we were five hours late, our rooms were waiting for us. We were in the annex which was a bit of an inconvenience (especially since it rained through much of our visit), but the room was spotless and the bathroom large. Both of our rooms were extremely dark, looked out to a closed terrace that we had no access to, so clearly the rooms vary in amenities/views. There also was no wifi access in our room which was a disappointment to our teenage son. There is a common computer in the lobby which we used.

The staff runs hot and cold (first receptionist was lovely but the others were a bit standoffish). Didn't use the bar so can't tell you about the bartender.

We have nothing but raves for the dinner in the hotel dining room. The paella was the best meal we had in our week in Andulsia! And the waiters were friendly and helpful. We had hoped to find a cheaper place for breakfast but there is none on the street. So it was a bit of a pricey buffet but the convenience was worth it.

There are no safes in the room but you can have you own at the front desk. But computers do not fit in them.

Do book your Alhambra tickets online or you will be disappointed. And we found it worthwhile to get the lay of the land regarding where the ticket kiosks are on the evening prior to our visit. They are tucked behind the main ticket counter which will have a long line to it in the morning. And do rent the audioguides as there is little in the Alhambra to tell you about what you are seeing.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, large bathroom and convenience to Alhambra
  • Disliked — Room was very dark and not in main hotel, no internet access, no safe
