My wife and me and another couple stayed there for 2 days in sept/2008. It is supposed to be a four stars hotel but it doesn't worth what they charge. For example: they charge 17 euros for the garage (the most expensive in all our 20 days trip). When I asked to have the car they spent 25 minutes to take it, and just went to take the car after my complain. They put us in two old rooms an when I argued that the hotel's advertise showed different photos they said the new rooms were fully booked.
As the minibar didn't have ice I asked some ice to the swimming pool bartender and he was very rude with me. So it was not a good experience stay in this hotel. I am sure you can find better options in Granada.

My husband and I stayed at the Carmen Hotel a few weeks ago with our four children and were very happy with our stay. It was a very clean comfortable hotel, with large rooms and bathrooms. Our rooms faced the street, and although it was a busy street, we were not bothered at all by any noise. The hotel has a beautiful roof top bar and patio area that looks out over the city and the Alhambra and stayed open until 3 a.m. The pool on the patio is small, but we found that to be the case in most of the hotels we stayed in. The staff was very helpful and courteous and recommended some great restaurants. They served a plentiful, free buffet breakfast, and the restaurant in the hotel is supposed to be very good, although we never ate there. If you are in Granada, make sure to visit the Mirador de Morayma- a beautiful restaurant with great food and one of the highlights of our trip!

Needs an urgent renovation. Not a 4*.

The hotel is supposed to be a four star. I have stayed at 2 star hotels that were much better. Tiny cramped rooms that were falling apart. Broken doors, rotten wood in the bathroom, cracked walls, sink and WC. Nothing seemed very clean.
They appear to have a renovated area, will advertise those rooms and then set you up in the old rooms. When confronted they claimed that the "new" area was booked and they had no rooms available there.
The food was good both for breakfast and dinner.

Although the location is central, the hotel is not worth what they charge. Stay away and look for a better option.

I was on a group tour so this hotel was booked for me. Before leaving, I checked all the hotel reviews we were going to stay at and this one had the most negatives so I wasn't expecting much. I have to say, that I was surprised. THe hotel is in a perfect location. It was clean, quiet (even though its right on top of a busy street), and ample. I am not sure what everyone else was complaining about. About the service, guess what, that's Europe. Yes, it wasn't the best but after 10 days in Spain and being at several hotels, that is the norm. Don't expect US service in Europe you just won't get it. Ice is a concept they haven't figured out and it costs to get it but that is every hotel. Most Europe hotels will push two twins and call it a single bed, that's Europe. Besides, are you really going to spend your vacation in the hotel or are you there to get into the city and see the sites.

Reading through the previous reviews I cannot believe I stayed at the same hotel! I have stayed in a few hotels around the same area in Granada and think that the Carmen is very good. The hotel is in a great location directly opposite El Corte Ingles in the centre of the city with lots of tapas bars, shops and restaurants nearby. The coach from the airport drops you off by the entrance for a cost of 3 euros per person. Stayed in room 318. Good size clean room , very comfortable beds, tv, wardrobe, safe. The bathroom looked very modern and was again very clean with complimentary toiletries, good quality towels and a hairdryer The shower was the best I have ever had in any hotel. Maid service excellent as were the reception staff.
I will definitely return to this hotel.
