Reading through the previous reviews I cannot believe I stayed at the same hotel! I have stayed in a few hotels around the same area in Granada and think that the Carmen is very good. The hotel is in a great location directly opposite El Corte Ingles in the centre of the city with lots of tapas bars, shops and restaurants nearby. The coach from the airport drops you off by the entrance for a cost of 3 euros per person. Stayed in room 318. Good size clean room , very comfortable beds, tv, wardrobe, safe. The bathroom looked very modern and was again very clean with complimentary toiletries, good quality towels and a hairdryer The shower was the best I have ever had in any hotel. Maid service excellent as were the reception staff.
I will definitely return to this hotel.

Booked hotel through American Express for my wife and 5 year old daughter. Asked for a queen bed, but got 2 twin beds that were pushed together. Room was absolutely disgusting. Seemed as if the carpet had not been cleaned for years. Bed lined appeared dingy and not clean. Bathroom was a diaster with mold in the tub and broken ceiling tiles. One fluorescent light bulb in bathroom without cover...tacky!!!! TV set from the 40's. Asked the front desk for a better room and were told that they had a convention in the hotel and it was our bad luck that we checked in on that day. I've stayed at 2 star hotels with better service and better rooms. Would never recommend this hotel. Please note...I'm not sure how this hotel received 4 stars. Even the taxi driver that took us to the hotel warned us about the amenities. DO NOT BOOK.

Stayed two nights during a tour through Andalusia. Clean rooms although with a small window. Not a place to spend your entire day, but who would stay on his room in Granada! Perfect location: all hotspots in walking distance. Seventies furniture in vogue now.

We stayed at the Carmen for one night in September, 2007. The hotel is an older facility and the room was clean, but not otherwise impressive. I understand that the rooftop bar area offers a spectacular view, but access to the area was locked. The food was satisfactory. The hotel is located downtown and is within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops.

  • Liked — It had a good location in town.
  • Disliked — I got the impression that the facility had seen better days.

This hotel is not only very ugly it is dilapidated. Our room was very smelly and had no, or broken air-con. We politely asked several times about this but were met with blank faces. I got the impression that the 'mechanic' was just a friend of a friend, and nobody really cared if anything got fixed. We had to sleep with the balcony door open due to the heat and this is very noisy because it is on a very noisy street, which means we got very little sleep. The place is really ugly, complete with worn blue nylon carpets, the cheapest gold looking light fittings, and grubby marble pattern plastic cladding in the bathroom. (strangely no extractor in the bathroom). The place is quite cheap but really it's not worth it: imagine staying awake each night in a noisy, smelly, ugly room in the sweltering heat - nothing is worth that.
This is no way a 4 star, and really the best thing I can think for the future of this hotel is if it was taken over by new management and had a complete and comprehensive renovation - it has clearly had nothing done to it since the 70's.
The view from the roof is spectacular, by virtue of the fact that this ugly hotel is taller than its neighbours, but despite the misleading photo and advertising the pool is just a kid's paddling pool. Breakfast is in a windowless Stalinist hall complete with cheapest carton orange juice and seriously undrinkable sludge coffee. Perhaps reasonably functional for a family but couples stay away - this place is NOT pretty and very run down. You have been warned.

  • Liked — Roof top view
  • Disliked — No Aircon. Also very ugly
