We stayed at the Carmen for one night in September, 2007. The hotel is an older facility and the room was clean, but not otherwise impressive. I understand that the rooftop bar area offers a spectacular view, but access to the area was locked. The food was satisfactory. The hotel is located downtown and is within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops.

  • Liked — It had a good location in town.
  • Disliked — I got the impression that the facility had seen better days.

This hotel is not only very ugly it is dilapidated. Our room was very smelly and had no, or broken air-con. We politely asked several times about this but were met with blank faces. I got the impression that the 'mechanic' was just a friend of a friend, and nobody really cared if anything got fixed. We had to sleep with the balcony door open due to the heat and this is very noisy because it is on a very noisy street, which means we got very little sleep. The place is really ugly, complete with worn blue nylon carpets, the cheapest gold looking light fittings, and grubby marble pattern plastic cladding in the bathroom. (strangely no extractor in the bathroom). The place is quite cheap but really it's not worth it: imagine staying awake each night in a noisy, smelly, ugly room in the sweltering heat - nothing is worth that.
This is no way a 4 star, and really the best thing I can think for the future of this hotel is if it was taken over by new management and had a complete and comprehensive renovation - it has clearly had nothing done to it since the 70's.
The view from the roof is spectacular, by virtue of the fact that this ugly hotel is taller than its neighbours, but despite the misleading photo and advertising the pool is just a kid's paddling pool. Breakfast is in a windowless Stalinist hall complete with cheapest carton orange juice and seriously undrinkable sludge coffee. Perhaps reasonably functional for a family but couples stay away - this place is NOT pretty and very run down. You have been warned.

  • Liked — Roof top view
  • Disliked — No Aircon. Also very ugly

The view from the roof top pool and restaurant area was amazing! The moment I walked up the stairs to this area I saw the Alhambra, mountains and cityspace, and it was breathtaking. I would reccommend having dinner there at dusk. The food was also very good.

I wasn't very happy with the service provided by the hotel staff. They didn't seem very willing to answer our questions. It actually seemed as if we were bothering them at times. I also noted a second charge on my credit card bill for nights not spent there. We had changed the dates we would be in Granada several weeks in advanced, but were charged for both sets of nights. I'm still unsure if it was a mistake on the part of the hotel or Booking.com.

The location is very convenient. It's located on a main street and in close walking distance to the cathedral and shopping area.

The accomadations were comfortable. The room size fine.
If it wasn't for the view, I would probably not stay stay here again, but again it was a spectacular view!!

  • Liked — The view from the roof top pool!
  • Disliked — The service from the staff.

Our family has just returned from a 2-week vacation in Spain and this hotel was our worst. It is rated as 4 stars but the rooms barely deserve 1. We had two rooms, both with windows giving onto interior shafts. One room had a horrible smell, old furniture, even older carpet and a tv dating from an ancient era. The other room, smaller had similar furnishings.

The hotel's roof was the best part. You can find there a restaurant and tiny pool but very nice views of the city.

Food at the breakfast restaurant was fine but nothing exceptional.

Quite disappointing and in urgent need of renovations.

Lovely place to stay! Hotel Carmen is sheer luxury considering it is a 4* We have friends in Granada and could stay with them but prefer not to. It is a beautiful city and it's charm draws us back again and again - nicest in the Spring. The Plaza de Flores is one of our favourite places to sit and daydream and there are always ample bars in Granada serving tapas with each drink - we rarely need to book a restaurant to eat as we have had enough! Try walking past the Alhambra and up the mountain - past the little cave "shops and bars" and look across at the city from Sacramento - where there are bars at the top to replenish you! In all it's a beautiful place with many shops in the old part of Granada and even a McDonalds in the city if you feel the need!!
